I don't know the price now, but I have a ATI Radeon 9800 128 mb card and BF 2 demo is running fine for me. My PC is 2.7 ghz with 700 mb ram, average by today's PC game standards. On the demo I run at 1024/768 with mostly high settings except for medium textures and lighting. Like I said it runs smooth for me as long as I have a good connection to the game server.

9800 are very expensive. Get a 9600...they are the same. If you have a sart nerd buddy they can transform a 9600 into a 9800, they are both the same

dynasty: isn't the 9600 (which i have) 64mgs, and the 9800, 128mgs? If so, how are they the same, or same when 'transformed'? Would appreciate any info, am wondering if my 9600 card will get me by for a while. Thanks.

Re: HELP! I need a new video card...

i ran the bf2 demo with my ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 and it worked fine, although i didn't max out the graphics. i can try maxing out the graphics at home tonight and report back if you'd like.

i think it's possible to get a card to play bf2 for $100.

I can get a GEForce 5700 LE 256MB card from Gateway for 118.00. Just got off the phone with them, I am going to call back and do it later today. Hopefully now my wireless connection will be able to handle this game!!! LOL

thanks, man. I would be interested to hear your findings.

actually, i would be interested in picking up a 128 or 256 card, except i have a laptop (purchased yesterday). It is running a 3400 athlon processor, 512 ram, with a Radeon 9600 card. I do not believe the card is 'upgradeable'. From what i understand, Dell (XPS) and Alienware are the only laptop builders whose units will take a post-factory vidcard.

Re: HELP! I need a new video card...

I am playing on an ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 (w/ 128mb) as well, and the game runs fine for me. I have everything set to medium, and it is really smooth. I did try bumping textures and a couple other things up to high, and the framerate took a dump, so I set them back to medium.

Also, it is a really, really good idea to have at least 1 gb of RAM. BF 2 hogs resources like nobody's business.

well, i played the bf2 demo with my ATI all-in-wonder 9600 and at medium graphics level, it was smooth, like sportsordeath found on his machine. i bumped it up to high and although i can tell the framerate was lower, it was still very much playable, which makes me wonder what specs sportsordeath has on his machine.

                          my specs: P4 2.4Ghz 800FSB, 512MB RAM, no dedicated sound, 7200rpm HD

my specs: P4 2.8Ghz 800FSB, 1 GB RAM, good Soundblaster Live audio card, same speed hard drive as you.

I should get noticeably better performance than you based on the RAM difference alone, not even considering the processor speed (pretty negligible). I guess it all depends on what each of us are willing to tolerate as far as framerate goes.

I did only bump up the settings all to high once, and that map was "FuShe Pass", so I don't know if that had something to do with it. I'm also not 100% sure I didn't have anti-aliasing enabled too, which would definitely play a part. It wasn't unplayable by any means, but just enough to annoy the crap out of me and make me drop the settings back down to medium.
