Can any one recommend a good RPG Game on PS2?

I have always enjoyed a good RPG, but havent really been in the loop lately. Can anyone recommend a good one that is out there for PS2?

Old or new, it doesnt matter.

I would recommend Shadow Hearts: Covenant. I find most Japanese RPGs ridiculously easy and braindead, but this one attempts to bring some challenge to the battle system. Every other aspect of the game is pretty much the same as Final Fantasy X.

It's basically Final Fantasy storytelling and characters with a more advanced version of Paper Mario's battle system.

Most PS2 RPGs are Japanese type, expain to us what you're looking for in your RPG. The above poster did pick a good one though.

If you like the Final Fantasy series, and haven't played FFX, do it. It's 100 hours to finish, but worth it. LOVED that game.

You forgot to mention the 50 of the 100 hours are spent watching CGI cutscenes....

I think I made it maybe 30+ hours into the game until I realized that I was'nt even playing it. I was merely watching it play. Still a good game and that bootleg water polo game was fun. I was addicted to that.

I don't think it was that many. I actually loved the cutscenes. They were integetral to the story, sucked me in more. There was TONS of gameplay IMO. Yeah what was that game called? That was fun.

Yea, I was exaggerating the cut scenes. They were'nt bad, I remember watching a cutscene with a beer and a cig and finished both before the game continued. It was kinda like playing a movie. But just like any other FF game I've played, I can never quite finish them. After a certain period of time, I get burntout on all the random battles. The FF series is kinda why I searched for an alternative in the RPG world. I could'nt take the random fights.

I kinda want one that focuses on gameplay, combat, weapons etc.

Blitzball. I kept getting to the part after beating the first Seymour, then I didn't play it anymore. Mainly because I was borrowing someone's PS2 to play it and they wanted it back or I didn't have time. I have three games I bought for PS2 just to play them when I had time, unfortunately I'm out of school and my friends are gone. If anyone is selling their PS2 let me know

If storytelling, cut scenes, and character interaction, aren't your thing then you may want to play one of the hack and slash, action RPG's. A few decent ones are

                    Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance II
                    Champions Return to Arms
                    Forgotten Realms Demonstone

These are all games that can be finished in under 30 hours. Although it isn't considered an RPG, the best gameplay, combat, weapons game is God of War.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga

one of the best battle systems in an rpg I've played in awhile.
                      an absolute BLAST to play.

Yeah Blitzball. What's cool is you can go back and play it anytime you like. They have a league, with trades, free agents, playoffs, it's cool!

Then, you should play PC RPGs. Get Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 with all of the expansions. Then, install The Big Picture - Baldur's Gate Trilogy mod and you have the most vast RPG ever made that just so happens to have huge replayability and isn't dumbed down like Japanese RPGs.

Or get PS2 strategy RPGs like Front Mission 4, Stella Deus, Disgaea, etc.

The games you mention are GREAT games, but I don't think they are for casual roleplaying fans. They are all really 100 plus hour games. I could be wrong, but I got the idea that the OP didn't really want to invest that kind of hardcore time.

As an aside I just reinstalled B.G. 2 on my computer a couple of weeks ago, you're right, they just don't make them like that any more. Some of these companies that are making bad MMORPGS, should just forget about that and make a good solid offline RPG.
