IBM Wins $850M Settlement From Microsoft
I think this is one of the reasons why a lot of people don't like Bill Gates. I just understood a good reason for all that conflict against Microsoft. Ironically, I feel more respect for Microsoft than I ever have before. A freaking $850,000,000 payout to a weaker opponent. Gotta make that hustle. Yeah, that's life though.

The Big Payback
When MS conducted their alleged crimes MS and Big Blue (IBM) were toe to toe and on each others level despite that they were going in opposite directions. MS's crimes is part of the reason why they are where they are today so far out ahead of Big Blue. The entire computer industry is littered with illegal and quasi-legal swindlings.UMass-Lowell River Hawks

Re: IBM Wins $850M Settlement From Microsoft
Everytime I hear about MS, I love them more and more. For some reason, I know it's wrong but I think rules for big companies should be different. I just hope that that amount of money doesn't really "break" the skin of MS. I think they were putting aside for a situation like this which is beautiful. I'm so glad that it didn't split up either. Oh, think of all the stuff that might not have occurred, especially the XBOX 360.I think it was all worth it.

Wow, just wow......
luv_mist - You do realize that Microsoft started off by stealing code from others? I have no problem buying the Xbox360 and plan to get it and know that you are very pro-Xbox, but Microsoft is not a company to be admired. This is the field I work in so I know a lot about Microsoft.
Both IBM and MS are huge companies. 850 MIL is nothing to either of them. You'd be surprised at the amount of times MS is sued for things. This is nothing new to them.
I know ya love Microsoft, but put down the pipe. That is unless they're paying you to promote them.Last edited by mjb2124; 07-04-2005, 11:31 AM.Comment

Maybe it's just me, but if you're a big company with lots of competition and you can't handle it then you should just give up.
IBM should take note."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Originally posted by luv_mistThat's kind of the mindset I have. I think I'm just pro Microsoft because their getting bashed by Sony's godfather. Sony is just talking a lot of stuff. I've realized the error of my ways and understand that Microsoft is a bad Bad BAD company. I heard about the Excel thing where the man came up with it. I heard about some other things too. I think Bill Gates got MS so big cause of his early practices of "borrowing" information from other guys. Ironically, I feel that being a big company, you do have to grind hard by any means necessary. Definitely not my type of area of interest. Good luck to all them companies I guess....
I can't blame Bill Gates for being so successful. It would be hypocritical of me since I'd love to be in the same position."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied.
