New Interview for OBLIVION: Enemies with common sense?!?!

    Highlight of the interview:

GS: Considering that the game is being developed to have a huge world and characters that act more or less independently, have there been any surprising moments for you so far in the game?

TH: Oh jeez, too many. Just yesterday I saw some skeletons pick up leftover weapons that were lying around so they could kill me easier. It was one of those, "Where's he going? Oh crap," moments.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Ironically, 2K is involved. I wonder what they are exactly doing within this project. I guess this is the beggning of new gaming A.I. that could possibly make me feel dumb. Just anticipating what this could do within a sports game: NBA 2K preferably. The 360 seems like the best thing to happen to gamers. Oh, I just can't wait....

This is one of the main reasons I have a 360 pre-ordered. IF this game actually lives up to it's hype it may be the GOTY in a landslide.

I think 2k is just the publisher, but you're right if the A.I. is half as good as they say it is, then one would hope that we will see some sort of variation of it applied to the 2007 and later sports games. Also application of the Havok physics engine to sports games would be nice as well(if its possible)

Re: New Interview for OBLIVION: Enemies with common sense?!?!

I read an article somewhere talking about the increase in technology for these games. I think it was an article in here speaking about how some guy wasn't impressed with the next-gen systems because his software didn't run smooth on it. However, the way the systems are setup, the developers have more stuff to add in there. The previous systems were more helpful in giving an "endpoint" as to where to reach for whereas these ones have more of an opening for that added stuff. I am finally satisfied that these systems might be my last if hte A.I. isn't dumbed down for those who feel that realism is hard. I wonder how much time it takes for them to upgrade that intellect of the A.I.?? I can feel the action in my imagination. No game will be the same. No repetition. No cheesiness. Straight man vs. computer type stuff....

Just hope the game doesn't turn out like Fable. Previews of Fable made it sound like a revolutionary, great game, yet they removed most of what they promised and what stayed was crap anyway.
I've read opinions on the Oblivion demo, saying that the AI looked scripted as if the characters were totally on rails. I won't worry about that yet, but what does worry me is that they are doing the old 'lets dumb the game down and make it more accessible to the average gamer so more people can enjoy it' thing. The stupid quick travel crap is a prime example of this.
Please let this game be as good as the arrogant developers say it is.

                What's wrong with quick travel?

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

It would honestly be hard to really make a complaint about quick travel though because you can easily choose not to use it right?

I'm glad I bought a new pc with a new videocard (6800 GT 256 mb), so I can play this game when it comes out.

I hope it's better than morrowind, because morrowind is easily the best rpg game I've ever played period, and it's the best game I've played on xbox (not counting sports games that are for other systems).

It's probably like Daggerfall (the best RPG ever IMO), where you click on a point on your map and it says how many days-hours it takes to get there. If you get attacked it stops on the route and allows you to fight the monster. Otherwise you can just walk to the point on the map anyway, but it saves alot of time.

Personally, I don't have a problem with that so long as the hours actually pass by and I'm affected by it in some way (energy, need for food and sleep, etc.)

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
