My point though was that microsoft releasing a new xbox with revisions ( cause trust me, they will put in changes that have been fixed and upgraded into the new batch) could possibly make people do a double take on it. I'll play devil's advocate for a second:
Suppose the hd-dvd drives come out, and hd-dvd's become mainstream, meaning everyone and their grandma has one. In theory ( again maybe not, depends on alot of factors) developers might use the added space in the future, which leaves you out of getting said games unless you upgraded to/purchased a new xbox 360. The reason i see this happening, is because this is not an optional component. 6 months after launch if everything goes the way this article stated, every 360 coming out will have the new drive, so now the majority of users ( next 4 or 5 years of the consoles life) will have the hd-dvd drives. Developers might not need to make new games for the old launch 360's, since the majority of gamers will have the new revision.
Now all of this is speculation, and none of it may be true(maybe its not cost effective to produce on hd-dvd's for several years). However, waiting some time just to make sure you dont end up with an obsolete machine 2 years in might make some potential buyers of the system wait for several months to pick up an "upgraded" box.
This is what microsoft wanted. This is the direction they seem to be heading.
"In order to play halo 4.5, you need to have xbox revision 2.3 or higher, and the hd-dvd upgrade, and the additonal "ram pack" or some crap. LOL, of course this is all pure speculation on my part, but it could happen.Last edited by Bacardi151; 08-01-2005, 04:11 PM.Comment

Re: Wait till spring for xbox360
You actually think MS would split their userbase and screw over early adopters by doing something like that? If a HD-DVD drive comes in later models, it'll be for movies only, not games. Unless MS wants to commit commerical suicide.
The only way this will happen is, if MS gives early adopters a free upgrade and frankly I don't see them doing that, or the launch system will have the HD-DVD already in it from day one.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.Comment

Okay good, because I definitely don't need a big "VHS to DVD" type switch anytime soon.

I was under the impression the 360 was in the $299 range, and the PS3 $399.
Still no answer to this. Maybe the dude who plunked down a $375 down payment just got gypped.
Regardless, I'll still wait until spring at the EARLIEST to even consider getting a 360. More likely it'll be summer/fall of next year.I'm back... for nowComment
