    PS2 is shot! Thoughts....

I just mentioned this in a thread in the NCAA forumn but I was curious how many people have had issues like this.

My PS2 just died on me. It's is grinding away at disks I put in it and just won't play or freezes up the games I am playing.

Funny thing is I keep it covered and I don't even play it a ton except during thsi time of year through till about February and BBALL season.

Have had it about three years and it is gone already. Worst part is this is my second one. There is no way I am buying a third PS2 not even a used one.

What really sucks is that means no more NCAA this year. I just reserved Madden PC with the money i got back from taking games back today.

But I am just kind of PO'd. These things are made like crap.

I am interested to know who has had these type of problems. I never had this many issues with my PS1. I had the same one for the entire lifespan of the system and it still works.

Also, does the Xbox have issues like this alot as well.

I don't know if I even want to get the new systems. This is a lot of money to shell out for things that are made like junk.

Just venting but I am seriously considering axing consolse all together. If anything maybe an Xbox 360 although I've heard issues with the old Drives and DDR erros with the original XBox as well. But hearing the price of what the PS3 is looking like and the fact that the PS2 has given me such issues there is no way.

    GAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

The PS2s were made like crap, (new ones seem ok) and so were the XBox systems. I know a lot of people who bought both systems early in the release, and I don't PERSONALLY know anyone who hasn't had them crap out.

Gamecube on the other hand.... I don't know anyone who's had major problems with those.

As for the PS2 though, call Sony and tell them the problem. They *may* offer to fix it for free due to that whole class action suit that got slapped on them

if i were you i would buy the xbox 360 when it comes out but that is my opinion. you never really know what is going to happen when a new system comes out.

          Yup. That's why I'm waiting with PS3.

No problems with my Xbox or my GC (while I still had one).

Thanks for the replies. Just frustrated is all. I got the PS2 the day it came out and the second one was at a reduced price I can't remeber what it was. I've easily spent over $500 though.

I'm sure I will cool off and when i see Madden for the 360 will give it a shot if I have the money at the time. With a home improvements and such an Xbox is the high prioiryt right now if you know what I mean.

I might try Sony but at this point it's almost moot. 360's coming out in a few months and Madden I can get for the PC. Problem is NCAA and Smackdown v Raw. I am sure with CIv4 and the movies for PC coming out I will spend enough time with those though. Plus I just got Pirates and Republic Commando tonight for the PC with my pre-owned discount at EBX. Not much but both games finally dropped in price.

Get your laser head changed... though you're probably better off buying a new PS2 because getting maintenance on PS2s are a pain, especially if your warranty is expired.

Yeh, right now it's too much of a hassle and I've heard repairt costs are crazy. Might as well get a new PS2 and there is no way I am doing that.

If what they are saying is true, it looks like the ps2 is only going to be 100 bucks in a couple of months! Just pick up a fresh one.

Yeh but I've already spent so much i'd rather put the 100 towards a 360 if I get anything at all

after my PS2 gave up reading games and starting leaving little marks on my discs I decided I had had enough.

I voided the warranty and opened her up and used compressed air and an old toothbrush and cleaned her out.

Now, my PS2 works like silk and I don't get any more game freezes, Disc Read Errors, or marked disks.

you would be surprised how much crap gets stuck in the PS2, just open her up and save yourself some money.

I tried that with my first one and it started smoking. But I guess I'm no worse off than if I just trash it.

I'll probably give it a shot when I get a chance.

Overheating, too. It's amazing how many consoles I see stacked under or on top of other A/V components or in a tiny home entertainment center with little or no ventilation.

                            Take care,
