Why we gotta have this discussion in here right now? I mean, the sense should be there. First and foremost, just because they got the betas a few weeks ago doesn't mean that they started on their games a few weeks ago. Some of these games have been going into development for more than a year for some. I'm not even a master in the arts of video game making but I know that. Gotta be more careful....

First party devs have had their beta kits since just after E3, others, close to a month ago. Also, first Xbox 360 dev kits went out in January 2004. I'm sure everybody knows (atleast I hope they do) that launch software isn't the best, and never scratches the surface of what the system is capable of. Do to the fact that devs just don't have enough time to wrap their heads around the final silicon. The number of games that actually blow you away from graphics and content, you can probably count on one hand. I wasn't impressed by the graphics and content in every launch PS2 or Dreamcast game. There was alot of stinkers.

Some of these games will improve quite a bit, and others, not so much. The beta kits aren't going to magically make these games run or look better. Devs still have to program to take advantage of the new features, SM 3.0++ features that the X800 cards don't have, extra CPU threads, and a gazillion other features. The good news is the only things left for most of the launch titles is testing, optimizing, programming, ect, and basically squeeze as much power out of the final silicon as you can.

The beta kits are making a difference, and the games will improve more and more, as devs get final silicon (end of August), and we get closer to launch.

The most encouraging thing about the demo we saw was that it seemed to be running more smoothly than it was at E3, and whether that fact owes more to EA's development prowess or Microsoft's tightening of the 360's hardware, it's nice to see things are coming together for the system's launch,
G4's G-Phoria awards show brings another look at a demo version of EA's upcoming street racer.

"It's also worth noting that the game was being shown on a beta version of the Xbox 360 hardware rather than one of the alpha development kits seen at E3, and we're pleased to report that the improvement in its performance was quite noticeable. With that said, there were still occasions when the frame rate couldn't keep up with all of the on-screen carnage, but Sega and Pseudo Interactive still have plenty of time to address that."
We get our hands on the latest work-in-progress build of Sega's Xbox 360 racer at G-Phoria.

I remembered that alot of early Xboxes, including mine, had issues with it's dolby digital output, I just returned it and got a new one. About 2 years after that my hard drive died, luckilly I got an extended warranty and got another new one. It's just the price you pay to be an early adopter. If I don't get the Xbox 360 at launch it would be because later versions may have HD-DVD drives.
