I'm an attorney and will not be buying one on principle. My downpayment is getting refunded back to me, and I will instead purchase a PS3, based on what I learned today.

The main factors in my decision are:

(1) The need to charge us $100 for a wireless adapter, when PS3 has an internal one (and yes, I know I could just hook up one to the ethernet port . .. the same one I use now . . . but this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth . ..PLUS I want one less piece of equipment in my entertainment center)

(2) Paying $400 for the true 360 system, and yet not receiving true HD support (there's no DVI/HDMI port or any HD DVD player).

(3) Having them charge $100 for a meager 20 GB hard drive. Sure, I would get the $400 version, but again, this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. A slap in the face to video game consumers.

(4) Knowing that the 360 will never support the 1080p format (something most of us will be using 3-4 years from now at the end of the upcoming console cycle), and comparing it to the PS3, which will.

(5) The fact that NFL2K5 is staying online, and its online leagues are staying online. This is all I need to help me wait until the PS3 (or even the Revolution).

While I would DEFINITELY shell out $400-$500 for a console that has the potential to output in 1080p, has at least 1 DVI/HDMI port, will be able to play HD or Blu-Ray DVDs, has an internal wireless adapter, and has full backwards compatibility to a portion of my present games collection (really only means that I can keep all those "classic" $20 compilation discs that I have bought . .. but it is still nice), I am not paying $400 for a console that really appears to me to be "between" generations, and not fully next-gen.

Now, if the PS3 comes out over $500, I may not get that at launch, either.

But the question is whether I will be getting the 360 at launch - I placed a downpayment on it thinking I'd receive a 360 with a hard disk for $300. Hell, as I say above, I would go up to $400 if it weren't for the factors I've addressed. Boy, I was wrong. I am going to take a pass on the 360 (possibly for good as I will only have time for 1 game console in the next generation).

This kinda sucks, too, because the 360 launch titles look impressive. But sorry, I'm going to pass.

PS2 launched here at $449.
360 is launching at $499.

That's only a $50 difference, and it comes with a 20gig HDD. Guess Canadians are getting a decent deal here for once.

The Xbox 360 better have an above average game library when u wanna charge people 400 bucks because the Xbox had horrible launch titles.

HECK YES, only because I got it off of ebay thinking that I was getting the HDD. Now, what I WILL do is sell that same system and get my money back or something. Ya'll think that Gamestop or EBgames will take my system and give me a refund if I "forgot" my receipt? Definitely skipping this generation of gaming. And to think, I came back into it last generation because of the XBOX officially....

edit* Don't know which one I'm getting either. If by chance I get the Premium which is highly unlikely, I'll be praising, but I don't see that as the luck I'll fall on.

Considering I paid that for the current Xbox, the premium system is not a bad deal at all. The base system looks like a ripoff though, I don't think I'll be spending $399+15% tax on that.
