Re: XBOX 360 with HD-DVD?
If any of the above info is the case, then this is something you could complain about as a consumer.
The core system will only play Dual Layer DVDs, while the premium system will be able to play HD-DVD. The big question is... why not have both systems having HD-DVD? Then the programmers could use the 15-30gig capacity of those discs.
UNLESS, MS is trying too keep the cost of games down by using the Dual Layer DVD format. I've heard that as rumor and reports on the Net as well.

Odd Odd Odd
it doesnt make a lot of sense to me.
On November 25th the Xbox 360 will be upgraded to HD-DVD in the Premium Version only. This can easily be seen by the different drives in the core system and the premium system. The Core System will be released a few weeks earlier than the HD-DVD premium version. HD-DVD version comes out November 25th.
im not sure how i feel about that.
1) i would LOVE for the 360 to have HD-DVD support. i really think that would not only help MS but help Toshiba as well
2) it would probably kill me having to wait for a couple of weeks for the premium xbox 360. IF it is true about the premium version featuring a HD-DVD, why not just release the core on the 25th as well.
im not sure how credible that site is, but it was updated this morning with that information, so we will have to seeComment

Re: XBOX 360 with HD-DVD?
Why would they release a console two weeks after the core one comes out. That would only cut down on sales of the premium version. Also why can't they just release the premium version two weeks earlier what's the big deal. Also why wouldn't this be in the brochure that was posted by Dagger.Last edited by ballerzinc; 08-21-2005, 04:49 PM.Comment

the tidbit is actually posted on a online encylepedia, and you get that result when you type in HD-DVD.
that part was updated this morning, so it is a very recent addition.Comment

Originally posted by dagger55i agree, it sounds schetchy, but i actually hope it is true. i for one would end up waiting for the HD-DVD premium version.

What it means is that both systems (reg and prem) will be released on the release date (Nov. 2, maybe?) and then starting on the 25th, the premium version will include the HD-DVD drive, but the basic will not.Comment

if the HD-DVD's put a two-three week delay on releasing them, then just postpone the whole launch til the 25th.Comment

Re: XBOX 360 with HD-DVD?
Waiting for the system shouldn't be the issue here.
The issue is they are going to have 2 seperate skus with 2 totally different DVD Drives. One which is going to be potentially the future of DVDs where as the other one is a dying breed.
The developers could make amazing use of a 15-30gig HD-DVD, but they won't be able too since they'll have to keep the "core" system in mind.
This is the only bad move i've seen MS potentially make thus far.BeyondMediaOnline.comComment

Re: XBOX 360 with HD-DVD?
Even if it does come with an HD-DVD drive many of us early HDTV adopters will be out of luck. HD-DVD will only support HDMI digital inputs, most early HDTV's only have component inputs for high-definition. Any High-def signal going over component cables will be down rezzed to 480p. This will not affect games, but if you are planning on watching HD-DVD's in high definition on an older High-Def TV, it aint happening.Comment
