    Good WW2-era strat game?

I'm looking to get into a good WW2-based strategy game. Anyone have any suggestions? It doesn't necessarily need to be online enabled, but an online component would be nice. I've heard good things about Hearts of Iron 2 and the Combat Mission games, but I'm not sure what the best options are right now for WW2-era games. RTS, Strategy, Simulation, whatever....anything WW2-related that isn't a FPS. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Panzers - Phase One/Two

If you are really good at strategy games you will fall in love with this game. Unfortunately I suck so I am having trouble completing a mission on even easy difficulty.

But I like how it has almost all of the WWII tanks and just an overall realistic game, fun when you can get a good uperhand against the enemy.

Panzers is OK...it's not a true sim though. Especially when you start blowing crap up and realize their little medical truck is throwing healing powers back into their vehicles.

One of the best ever was Close Combat, especially the mod Gold, Juno, Sword.

Combat Mission is OK as well, but the campaign mode is weak.

If you find anything, let me know, because since Close Combat I haven't found anything in years.

I enjoyed Close Combat 2: A Bridge Too Far the most out of the Close Combat games and is probably my favorite WW2 strat game.

Korsun Pocket is supposed to be the best WW2 wargame, but it's too realistic for me.

Hey thanks for the suggestions, everybody. Of the games mentioned, Close Combat 2 looks most appealing so I might give that one a go. Korsun Pocket looks good but pretty hardcore and Panzers isn't really a strat sim per se, so it looks like CC2 is a happy medium between those two. Thanks again!

Korsun Pocket is awesome. Some brutally effective AI.

I've heard a lot of good things about Hearts of Iron II as well, but I'm waiting for the price to drop to check it out.

The Close Combat with Russia and Germany was pretty good as well. My favorite though is Close Combat 5, Invasion Normandy. That is the one where there are a ton of mods, and the Gold, Juno, Sword is one of the best ever.

You can beat CC5, then install the mod and it's like playing a whole new game.

I might have to check out Korsan pocket. I've also heard things about Hearts of Iron, all of them good.

I enjoyed CC2 the most as it had a good mix between infantry and armor. The later ones seemed to focus more on tanks. The game was at its best when either side had a couple tanks max.

Yeah I suppose panzers is more of an action game and it's not the most realistic.

You can play as the Germans, Americans, Brits, Russians and Japanese... and in some missions you even get Italian and free-French troops.
