Gabe said he's never written multi-threaded code before, well of course it isn't going to make your life better then. Seriously, Gabe needs to stop complaining, it doesn't solve anything. What he should do is make the industries problems into his profit by creating an engine that revolutionizes multi-threading. You're going to have write multi-threaded code on the PC sooner or later.

Totally agree with the man, No hard drive on the Xbox is gonna be a big mistake. Since Miscrosoft isnt going 100 Percent with the hardrive and half the systems wont have one, Microsoft is asking developers not to code for one.

It will be the same case with PS3.

With Blue Ray at least its gonna be a "different console" The Xbox having a hard drive is what set it apart from the Ps2 in having faster load times, 95 percent of Xbox1 games use the hard drive as a Cache and virtual swap for virtual memory and a prefetch. I am very dissapointed they are going with the Hardrive for game saves only route. Its going to make for some 1 dimensional games relying on alot of streaming and no prefetching.

i don't think Blue Ray will be that crazy good, but i agree that i'm disappointed that the hard drive isn't standard...

I just think Newell sounds like he's whining about not wanting to change his coding style, when changing would probably improve things. This isn't 1995 anymore

You know why I think he's mad? Because noone is going to license the Source engine now because it wasn't ready for multi-threaded coding like Unreal Engine 3 is. That is what Valve was banking on (money wise) and now they're screwed.

Things aren't looking good for the industry. We may lose some talented programmers(or Sony/MS will) if none of them includes the hardrive. Game development is already like a sweat-shop, compound that with a new curriculum. What's the point in staying in the industry, they can use their experience elsewhere? While all new hardrive has a learning curve, it seems like this core business is the breaking point for many. This does explain why most 360 games look like xbox .5 and gears of war with the unreal engine was way ahead.
