While all new hardrive has a learning curve, it seems like this core business is the breaking point for many. This does explain why most 360 games look like xbox .5 and gears of war with the unreal engine was way ahead.
i don't think we'll lose them....they want to make money, and consoles are a cash cow

Thats exactly why Im waiting to get my console this time around (probably a year or two) We very well could see another Gaming Crash like we did in the 80s.

The current-gen consoles are. Nothing is set in stone for next-gen. Many have said game development is not worth the money, if that's what you were talking about. This just furthers that notion because I doubt wages will increase if the go up at all even though the qualifications have risen immensly.

The next-gen consoles could bomb. But the industry as a whole wouldn't crash, current-gen games haven't really showed signs of decline.

But computers sure as heck have a lot more potential. Honestly, I do feel that the 360 is being a little too rushed. I'd love to have it in December or January if we could get a bigger media storage for the discs like HD-DVD. Just don't know how long MS can last against PS3. I mean, what is it going to look like around 2009 or even 2010? How many of those new developers who are throwing down nice will start complaining because the 360 isn't enough space? I just don't know anymore....

I think that the PC is going to be the best and eventually the most popular gaming platform because the architecture and the CPU are much better. This will allow developers much more flexibility in writing code and they will not have to worry about optimizing code which will be important for the next generation consoles because they are in-order execution CPU with narrow cores. Most people already own a PC so the market potential for PC games is huge. The cost for optimizing code for the next generation consoles will be too high and these costs will not easily be passed on to consumers paying higher prices for games.

So with all of this enlightening information. How much does Nintendo look like an idiot now (regardless of marketshare)?

I don't really agree that the PC is the future...i'm a techie guy, and while i play some games on my PC I hate worrying if my PC will be able to run something and have it look good. 90-ish % of gamers out there don't want to have to buy a new video card every 6 months so they can play the new cool thing out there. For that reason I don't think PC will be the dominant gaming platform. Look at Madden, PC's a good version, but they sell infinitely more console versions.
