Hi my name is Terry and....

    I'm a graphics whore.....

I have always loved games and companies that push the edge of the systems to look for the most outstanding, realistic graphics as possible.

Is that so wrong? I mean I pay all this money for a gaming system and at least 50 plus for the games why shouldn't I expect the best graphics for my money. Have we let certain companies get away with subpar graphics by reasoning it away? Or grpahics no that big of a deal for you?

I just wondered if I was out of line for feeling like these new gaming systems better have the WOW factor or I may be done with console gaming.

I feel the same way, but I won't be done with console gaming.

People are always saying, "Who cares about the graphics suck?" I agree, but I also tend to say, "Who cares about the gameplay if the graphics suck?"

I really need both in a game, otherwise I can't play it (look at High Heat: [i]terrible graphics, terrible audio and replays, etc.).

I'm somewhat half and half. For instance, when you get spoiled by graphics in a game from one genre, ie, FPS, then its hard to go back to another game that has less graphical quality. But at the same time, I'm moreso looking for new and innovative features that can immerse me in the gameplay.

I agree somewhat about the next gen consoles however, I really expect every game to look as good as Gears of War. If not, then these devs are'nt trying hard enough.

One thing about graphics though, is that if a company pushes the envolope to far for graphical quality, then in some cases, the gameplay takes a hit because thats all they concentrated on. Its actually too many games out now thats like that.

My whole thing is like I said, if one company can make a game that has great graphics, then most if not all companies should follow suit. I hate to bring EAs name in here but its the best example I can come up with especially since this a sports gaming site. To many companies have gotten away with subpar graphics and since the jump from current gen to next gen is'nt that big of a leap, expect more of the same.

HH is a great example. I could'nt play that game based alone on the graphics despite that game playing the most realistic sim of baseball. Every visual thing about HH felt unfinshed and unpolished and although I'm not the typical graphic whore, it was to ugly to stomach.

Given the choice, I'll take gameplay over graphics any day of the week. That's why I played the High Heat series forever despite its poor graphics, and why I'm still playing Call of Duty on PC despite there being other more graphically advanced FPS games on the market.

I look at the great sports games of all time....the NHL 94s, the Tecmo Bowls, the Earl Weaver baseballs....did any of them have great graphics for their time? Not really. None of them did anything revolutionary from a graphical standpoint. But the thing that makes them timeless is their gameplay.

The "wow factor" of a game's great graphics will grow old after a while, but the gameplay is what keeps me coming back to a game. If the graphics are at least good enough to afford a decent level of immersion in the game, that's good enough for me.

And thats one things that really pissed me off about EA... after my Xbox broke I took my brand new laptop and bought some games I bought MAdden and Live....

And I will say EA screws ovr console gamers the patches for realistic skin tones tattoos shoes and especially faces are so much better than what we get on a console so that makes me wonder why they can't make the game look like that out of the box.

I see your point in a way but its not that simple in many instances I felt live played a better game of B-Ball with adjustmentsbut every time I would watch a game and then go to play a B-Ball video game I popped in NBA 2k5 because it felt like I was playing a NBA game.

Ideally I want both in a game, but if it really came down to choice, I'd choose gameplay. I was a big supporter of HH back in the day. LOVED the gameplay, but realized the graphics were not up to par with other games. It never bothered me though because I was so happy with what the game did correctly that other baseball games struggled with (ie: walks, stolen bases, accurate pitch counts etc...).

In the end, I think that if a game was beautiful, but played terribly then I wouldn't enjoy it. On the other hand, if the graphics weren't up to par, but the gameplay was perfect, I'd love it (ala HH).

                  Different strokes I suppose.

I think I'm a graphics whore at heart, but if the prettiest looking game sucks, I still won't play it.

                        70% gameplay
                        30% graphics

Graphics do mean a lot, but if it's no fun, I am not going to play it.
