So how is the PSP now that it has been out for a while...

Just wondering how many people are still enjoying their PSP? I'm looking to get one soon but I have a few questions about it if somebody could answer them that would be great.
    1. What extras do you need to get so you can play online or go on the internet?
    2. How can you convert the PSP to an MP3 player?
    3. Does it come with a thing to plug into a USB port?
    4. How hard is it to play in sunlight or under a light? What extras are a must? (ie. larger memory pack? screen protector?
    5. What games are solid? (I have my eye on Madden, GTA, maybe a baseball game and maybe Gretzky Hockey.)
    6. How is the battery life?

Thanks, if there is any additional information I should know please let me know.

Need to have WiFi access somewhere to get online...
Get a USB Cable and transfer your music, then just put in headphones and listen...
You have to buy a cord that's not part of the value pack...
Memory Card no doubt... I have 32 megs and it's not nearly enough...
Get Hot Shots Golf... you won't regret it...
    Pretty good...

    Hope that helped.

Let me just add some things.

      1. You need the v2.0 firmware update to have the built-in browser to get online. There are homebrew mods that can do it as well if you don't want the firmware.
      2. You don't need to "convert" your PSP into an MP3 player, it already is. Just drop your MP3s onto the music folder in the memory card.
      3. The USB line is your regular USB line. You probably have some lying around the house already. Maybe for your digital camera, so you might not need to purchase that.
      4. I don't think it's really that hard to play in the sunlight, but I haven't really done it that much. It's a good idea to get a screen protector, just so you don't scratch it. And you definitely need more memory if you want to put a lot of MP3s, movies, or any other type of media on your PSP.
      5. Not too sure about which games you would like. I have some racing games and spider-man 2. Lumines is fun too. Just your own preference.
      6. Battery life is decent. Nothing too spectacular. I would say about 4 hours or so, depending on what you use it for. Wifi takes up more juice. Playing just MP3s or looking at just pics takes less.

      Hope that helps. Enjoy.

Oh, I love my PSP by the way.

PSP is a good buy. Some good looking sports games are coming out for it this year. Hopefully we'll see more DVD movies in UMD format.

Check out www.pspforums.com ... Good site to find out what you can do with this. Lots of creative stuff

If I had a few games and a nice memory stick (i only have the 32mb one) then maybe I'd me more in love with this. But right now all I do is get on the net and listen to the 5 songs I can fit on the thing.

Re: So how is the PSP now that it has been out for a while...

          Dude, I freaking love it.

I've had it since late April... and it totally suits my lifestyle now (which equals almost zero time to sit in front of a TV and play games)

If you are a sports gamer then you will be in heaven with portable sports games.

I think in a year the game support will be unprecedented, with new game properties being tested on the platform (before investing in the mighty big budget next-gen systems).

Seriously between Fifa, Madden, MLB, HotShots Golf, and Wipeout Pure, I am in gaming heaven.

plus I can surf the web at restaurants while waiting for a table etc...

I bought a 256mb memorystick card and it's plenty for me, I can fit two and a half albums worth of mp3s, and a video or two, and still have plenty of room for all my gamesaves

the 256mb card was 40 bucks at RadioShack.

I have zero regrets on my psp purchase.
when you buy one, find a good carrying case or protective case for it and all the UMD's you'll be buying, and buy a set of screen protectors to preserve the screen.

edit: playing in the sunlight is impossible... find some shade

battery life varies based on the game you are playing, whether or not you are using the Wi-Fi antenna, the screen brightness intensity, and the volume...

my battery lasts about 5 hours or so and completely charges up in about 40 minutes to an hour.

I use the lowest brightness setting and keep my games reasonably low as I'm usually wearing headphones.

oh yeah one more thing, the headphones included with the PSP suck.

Thanks for the replies guys this has helped me a lot.

I wanted a PSP when they first came out but I never had that much money since I didn't have a job at the time, the thing is I want the PSP so I can play it at work as it gets really slow and my boss tells me to bring something to do.

So I'm still a little confused with the online part....Do I personally need some sort of wireless account or need to buy something...or can I just fire up my PSP and get online that easily and download version 2.0? So yeah I'm not clear on that one.

The rest of the questions I have understood and I'll be getting a PSP in the coming weeks.

If your work has a wireless internet router then you can connect to it and go online through the psp's wireless antenna.

at home you need to buy a wireless router to connect to your broadband access, I don't know a lot about it technically as I don't have hi-speed internet or wireless access at home, I just go to cafes or restaurants to play (or friends house) online.

If you are near a wireless router, all you gotta do is start up the browser in the PSP. I was surprised when I found I didn't have to do anything to set up the internet.
