what are you expecting form 360 and ps3?

I know this has been thrown around alot, but what exactly do you expect form the "next gen" consoles? So far, only a few games makes me think it looks only a little better then current xbox, especially in the sports games. Since we play sports games in such a far away camera, does it really matter if the dudes muscles are "actually" flexing, or if the guys hair is flopping around? not really. What i would like to see instead of these is some better player animation. Looking at madden, and nba live so far, the players look ok, but the animation looks absolutely horrid, and this is less than 2 weeks before it needs to go gold to make the launch. Maybe im expecting too much, but the 1st time i turned on nlf 2k on my dreamcast, i thought i had died and gone to gaming heaven. Then came soul caliber, which blew my mind. I have a feeling we wont be getting this from the "next" gen consoles, even though they harness hundreds of times the power of the dreamcast, etc. To me, they mostly look like xbox titles with hd thrown in, and higher polys. I have already paid for one, because im such a sucker for new technology, and im sure i will enjoy it to death, but it seems we are expecting too little from these new systems, as the leaps form nes to snes, genesis to dreamcast were so phenominal, i hardly see that happening here.

I would like to see really indepth stat tracking in sports gaming. I don't know how many times I've read in reviews that the current platforms don't allow them to store as much statistical info in games. Graphically, I don't want anymore jaggies or slowdown.

Well..I had my doubts about the "vast improvement" on the Nex Gen systems..

But after seeing the XBox launch guide and the screens of Call of Duty 2, Gears of War, ec....I'm PSYCHED for the system now.

As long as NBA 2k and Madden are solid...I'll be more than happy with those 4 titles to start things off.

AI is HUGE for me...with all of this extra horsepower...there should be NO EXCUSES for solid AI in every title...other than lazy programming.

Yea, I'm looking for more intellegent AI and games that are more indepth than what we see today. No doubt the graphics will get better but I already know that most launch games and games that are following are focusing more on eye candy than anything since its the toughest thing to work on. I just dont want to see a highly detailed, graphical masterpiece with only 10 hours of gameplay and 1 ending.

Call of Duty 2 has one of the three CPU's dedicated to the A.I. alone.

At first I really wasnt sure what to expect epsecially after E3 not that impressive from the actual gameplay footage but now ive pretty much been blown away with 2k6, live, madden, call of dutty, gears of war, pgr and etc...Im verry pumped a huge leap from Dreamcast to PS2 and to think this is just the launch lineup! Honestly these games look amazing for a launch compared to past launches ps2 and xbox, thoe dc did blow me away much like 360 is doing. I hope for better graphics, better ai, better animations and I belive i will be getting all 3 in next gen.

Re: what are you expecting form 360 and ps3?

I'd love to have near human type of A.I. where how I'm playing, I'm getting played against even though it's me and my machine. Like with basketball, I want the computer to pull of crossovers not only because it calculated it but also because it loves to embarass the hell out of me. I'd also love to see the computer learn my tendencies faster and make me adjust and keep my game sharp whether it's in sports, FPS, RTS, or whatever else.

I also want the seamless transition between "reality & fantasy" to be far superior than what we have at our grasp. With that stat tracking, I want all that plus the ability to see into the past like most points scored in a single game, most sacks in a game, most fumbles, jerseys hanging in the rafters, all that stuff. I want to be overloaded with options of those small things that make such a big difference.

I want more variety of things. In sports, having not only different shooting styles but different dribbling styles where one player would cup the ball more when crossing over, different variations of crossovers, passes, dunks, tendencies, celebrations, facial expressions, blocks. I want to be overwhelmed with these options where I do feel like I'm in the game. Would love to see Kobe finally dunk different than Vince Carter though they could sometimes seem similar. Also, having the tendencies and A.I. play hand-in-hand with that.

I'd love to see great graphics with great games finally. If I get a GTA game, I want to see depth in it with the eating being more realistic and stuff. I want the punching in Fight Night to be so crazy where I see the face really taking the hit and "showing" the direction it's coming from. I want to see body injuries become more realistic like if I get a shot in my arm, that could affect accuracy and even effectiveness. If I have a sprained wrist or ankle, It shows by me limping on that ankle or how it hurts when I catch a ball with that sprained wrist or shoot. I guess what I want might not be realistic right now. Maybe a few more next-gen cycles. Heck, maybe the next next-gen cycle we might see these. Crossing fingers....

I'm interested in hearing more about this. Infinity Ward says there using all 3 cores, but are they using all 6 threads?

Kudos to them for getting the multi-threading down in just 2 months. Call of Duty 2 is the only game that will be multi-threaded at launch, all the others are single threaded games.

Anyways, what I'm expecting from the 360 and PS3, besides the photo realistic graphics, are...

Better A.I., animations, physics, and seamless worlds. All of which we will see at some point.

You mean that even NBA 2K6, GoW, PGR3, and all them other games aren't even going with multi-thread yet? If that is the truth, HOLY CRAP!!

If it was human like, it would'nt be artificial.

                        Just messing with you.

One other thing no one has mentioned yet, is I would like to see every game have a realistic physics system. It'll make each game and gaming experience diffrent everytime you play it.

Another thing is that I want games to go into intricate detail with bodies and vehicles, etc. For example, shooting a guy in the stomach with a shotgun causes you to see his ribcage and his organs spill out. Crashing a car will cause all the little parts of the car to fly everywhere such as shocks to headlights to the rugs on the floor. I wanna see it all.

Yep, except GoW, which will make use of multi-threading (says Cliffy B), but it's not coming out until late next year.

Once devs start making use of multi-threading, we're going to see some truly remarkable games on these consoles. I can't wait to see what's possible when devs start to use all 6 threads of the 360's CPU and really tap into Xenos, and make use of CELL's SPE's and really tap into the RSX, it's going to be insane.

AI is going to be huge for me. Im tired of playing rainbow six, or ghost recon and always coming across the same enemies in the same locations everytime i redo the level. Shooting games would be great if the AI could "actually" adjust to how you are attacking, and make moves on you according to your position, not just run at you all willy nilly guns a balzing.
