    XBox questions

Well folks, I'm going to be making the plunge tonight to the dark side. Traded in my DC and ps2 last night and am going to get an XBox. Just a couple of questions:

    1. When ripping music to the HD, does it have to be off of a regular CD, or can I burn an mp3 CD and take them from there?

    2. Does anyone have the Pelican wireless controller with the redundant black & white buttons above the triggers? If so, how do you like it?

    3. How well does the AR Max Drive work for it? I have a Mac at home and I don't think the regular AR would work well with it....AND I WANT ROSTERS!!!

    4. I have a 44" HDTV at home that will supposedly show up to 1080i. Are there any games that show that...but first I have to get the HD A/V kit.

NFL 2k5 will be a new game to me again!!!

    Re: XBox questions

Welcome to the dark side my man, its long overdue. Both the PS2 and xbox are great but I personally prefer the X. I may be able to help you with at least one thing.
You can burn music straight from original cd's and it will also read burned cd's but I can't remember whether it has to be a cdr or cdrw.

I don't have a pelican controller or AR max drive, sorry.

Most xbox games support 480p and a few out there support 720p. NFL 2K5 looks great in 480p. Check out this link, this site should help you with all your HD gaming questions. Happy gaming!

      1. You can only rip CDs with music. No MP3s. Some CDRs will burn, but the files must be CD/WAV files.

      2. A friend of mine bought the Pelican Wireless for 24.99. Has had ZERO problems with it and loves having the black and white buttons on top.

      3. I have the Action Replay - not sure if it's the Max, but it works really easy. Install the program. Boot up the program, then click & drag the files from your desktop or folder directly into the program.

      4. I have an HDTV as well. There's only a few games that actually show up in 1080i and they're nothing to write home about. Enter the Matrix is the only one that I can think of that i'd even consider playing, but stilll... ehh.
As for 720p. You've got a few games. The ones that i can think of most notable are MVP 2006 and X-Men legends. Seriously though. games in 480p are the norm and really only thing this generation can do well. Wait for the 360 and PS3 for the HD stuff.

      I hope this helps some.

I have one. Personally I never use the "redundant " black and white buttons above the triggers. Half the time I'm not aware they are there. It doesn't feel comfortable playing with the controller that way to me. For some reason the left thumbstick on my controller is messed up. When I'm navigating menus and press down on it it goes down on the screen then right back up. Doesn't really affect any games I play. (but then I play sports titles and how often do you pull back?). My friend has the same controller and has no problems like that so hopefully mine is an isolated case. Enjoy your box!

Additionally, the XBOX will only read the CD if it is a CD-RW. CD-R's do not work.

With regards to question #2, I bought 2 pelican controllers, one wired one wireless, both with the redundant black/white triggers. They both sucked pretty hard. The biggest issue I had was the analog sticks weren't calibrated correctly. The wireless one was a little better, but it had different sensitivity zones when moving the analog sticks. The wired one was really really bad in that I'd be pressing up to move in Halo 2 and Unreal Championship and I would all of a sudden stop moving. The wireless one also had some sizable lag with the system registering button presses. So if you play games with precise button presses like MVP Baseball or NBA 2K5, you're really going to be frustrated. That's my experience in a nutshell.

I found that Madcatz makes a good wireless controller, but as far as I know they don't have the redundant black/white triggers. If they do, I'd try that one out. Pelican just doesn't make a very good controller based on my experiences

                  Depends on the drive.
