    Guess Who's Back...

Jack Thompson. Yes, the same whack-job that said:

"There are sociopaths everywhere. Some of them are in Government. Some of them are in Take 2. In fact we got a bunch of sociopaths in Edinburgh, Scotland sitting around in kilts sipping their single malt whiskey spreading racial, hurtful stereotypes in this country."

His newest attack on the video game community, as from Wikipedia...:

"On October 10, 2005 Thompson sent another open letter to members of the press and ESA president, Doug Lowenstein. In it, he proposes a that if someone "create, manufacture, distribute, and sell a video game in 2006" that allows players to play the scenario he has written, he will donate $10,000 to the charity of Take Two's chairman Paul Eibeler's choosing.

The game proposal is considerably violent, following a disgruntled father of a killing victim who takes his revenge upon the games industry which he blames for 'training' the man who killed his son. The father begins a spree of murders in retaliation, attacking the offices of 'Take This' who made the game and killing the chairman 'Paula Eibeler' and her family, before beginning a road trip across the states back to Los Angeles assaulting the law firm 'Blank, Stare' who represent 'Take, This' and various gaming arcades and games stores before ariving at E3 and completing a "monstrously delicious rampage" on the participants.

The content of the concept follows very similarly with Thompson's view on the way games affect people and has proposed a storyline where the victims aren't civilians, but those responsible for releasing other violent games. It also attempts to play against the continued argument from the games industry and media that video games do not turn people into killers, a claim long contested by Thompson.

Unbenkownst to Jack at the time however, a group of modders known as the Fighting Hellfish had released exactly one week prior a San Andreas mod. featuring Jack Thompson himself acting out a remarkably similair scenario, at one point even assassinating Doug Lowenstein. Acting under hypnosis Thompson moonlights as Banman, and takes to the streets in his Bannedwagon to destroy the entire shipment of Rockstar's Bully before it reaches distribution, thereby finally making good on his threat. Jack later assassinates Janet Reno after thwarting her coup, which forces him to confront the realization that his time spent researching violent games have turned him into his own Manchurian Candidate."

    Do we have to?

I think the man's comments pretty much speak for him.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

If people would just ignore him, he'd go away. Like the "where's the beef" lady, and the Dell Dude.

Ironically, I wonder if he is going to follow through with his claim of tossing the money to the charity. For some reason, he's just ********. I do think that ignoring him might make him either grow up or go away. We'll see how it goes though. Kind of getting more and more tired. The thing is parents are the ones who break the law and give their kids the game. What the heck?? And then the company gets the heat....
