    Why pre order?

I went to gamestop because my friend wanted to preorder 360 . After he gets rung up they tell him ok we will call you sometime in feb. Whats the sense in pre ordering then if you cant get it on launch .And if thats the case they should stop taking preorders . I wonder when ill get mine considering i preorderd may 17th. Sorry for the rant but this is stupid.

Because they sold out of all their launch consoles. The 360 has been available to preorder in brick and mortar stores since May.

This late, you preorder just to reserve one on a later shipment. If he didn't preorder he wouldn't be able to buy one at Gamestop until all preorders are filled, which may be a couple of months after February. You can take your chances on a place like Wal-Mart or Target having the system available earlier, but you would defiintely be taking a chance. Preorder now and you will at least ensure you get it by Feb. as the worst case senario, don't preorder and you may not be able to find until until next Summer.

I don't know, I would think so, but I'm not sure. Call the place you preordered and they should be able to tell you if you are in the first shipment or not. You are in good shape preordering that early, I know some people who did it even earlier, but most of the people I know waited until sometime over the summer to preorder.

I hope they are available come February to just walk in a buy one. I figure I will get one when MVP NCAA Baseball comes out which I guess will be around Feb-March timespan.

I think you went a little over board with this statment. They will have more second shipments earlier then you think, Microsoft said in a artile I read the other day, they plain to ship new units each week until the demand dies down. Plus you think Microsoft will sell all there first shipment units and not bring anymore more out around X-MAS time, thats where they will make the most money, think about it. PLus we all might want the 360 real bad, but there are still a lot of people out there who don't want it or can't afford it, so trust me they unit will be there for the taking.

where did you preorder?......My ebgames told me that, they have 85 preorders and I'm number 83, and he said there supose to get 53 units for the first shipment, but he said that he thinks they will get all preorder units and not just 53, the reason is, microsoft if supose to get in touch with all there major retailer and ask how many preorders they got and they wan't to fill all preorders for the first shipment, basicly microsoft the wants to show eveyone one who went out preordered respect and get them there system on release day. So take that for what it worth. So I'm not sweating it.

yup my gamestop guy told me that weeks ago...

we have 122 preorders, and the manager expects to have 122 units on november 22.

he said they are going to have one awesome party starting at 6pm in the store.

I bet I'll walk into a store the day after it comes out and will find one. I'm not concerned.

I was just going by the quote that a person who preorders the system today will get it in February(from the original post). If the preorders are that massive, then it is very likely that you won't be able to walk into a store and buy one until at least the summer.

I think you are right though, Microsoft will know the demand and do their best to feed the supply fully. They know they will only sell as many units in 05 as they can get out onto the shelves, if they ship it, it will be sold.

Maybe the guy just preordered at an exceptionally busy store or something, but if preorders now are going to be received in Feb., then there will be a real problem getting the system off the shelf anytime before April or May IMO. I agree that Microsoft understands the insane demand there will be, I"m just not so sure how well prepared they will be too feed it.

Somebody preorders the game today and they are told they will get the system in February, how are you confident that you can walk in and buy it the day it comes out? Anyplace not doing preorders will have insane lines at midnight/store opening time. I would be absolutely shocked if anyone can casually walk into any store around 1 or 2 in the afternoon on the release day and just pick up a 360 and buy it.

I might be wrong, but there isn't a company in the world who could produce enough units to meet the demands this system will have initially. Microsoft would have to delay the system by at least 6 months to manufacture enough units to make them easy to buy on the release day.

Maybe I"m overestimating the demands, but if EA can't make enough copies of Madden to fully supply every store, I don't see how Microsoft will be able to do that for a new system.
