    selling an x360

I preordered 2 xbox 360s a while back and will be gettin both at launch. I preordered the 2nd with the intention of selling it on ebay. I'm thinking of starting a 10 day auction now as a presale and getting about $550 but i'm trying to figure out if i can get more money if i sell it right before it comes out or a couple days after.

    My four choices are:

    1. presale now

    2. end auction on day of release

    3. start auction about 5 days before release and have it end 3-5 days after release (i do this because if the supply is very short about 3 days after release people will realize that the only choice they have is to buy one on ebay unless they want to wait 4 months)

    4. start a 10 day auction day of release (relies heavily on having a very low production and new shipments not coming in until very late)

i know for option 1 i can get around $550

for option 2 i may be able to get a little more as it comes closer to release (although there probably willl be many auctions to choose from by then)

for options 3 and 4 i probably have the most potential to get alot of money but if it turns out that new shipments will be coming in earlier than expected then people will not have to resort to paying $550 so i may only be able to selll it for $50

and should i include like a bundle with games or not

BTW: it is the platinum version

its a huge risk to do it now. If you intend to get paid via paypal, I would seriously look into all the rules and regulations. Because there are chargeback dates and limitations, and even dispute date regulations.

SO if there WERE a problem when it was shipped out, in 6 weeks, the chargebacks and offers basically all expired, and more than likely one of you will get screwed.

By the way, I think your sources might be a little off with the production shortage that the 360 will experience. I heard that they have about 2-3 companies pissing out systems like crazy to keep up with the demand. That's just what I heard though....

I was just wondering if you preordered both from the same place, if so good luck on that place selling you both, I just think when you go pick up both, they will tell you they can only sell you one. I would find out about that

I think you are kidding yourself if you are expecting to sell the 360 at a huge profit. The stores that are saying they wont have any more until February are the specialty stores that have sold more preorders than they are expecting to get in the first month. These are smaller stores that wont be receiving huge shipments like a Wal Mart or Target will.

The likelihood of buying a 360 and selling it for a huge profit money on EBay are slim for a few reasons IMO.

First the economy is not nearly as strong as it was for the PS2 launch. The people who have or are willing to drop $400+ on a game machine will be smaller. The demand for the 360 will be smaller than the demand for the PS2 was. And then consider that the people that are likely to be desperate and willing to overpay for a 360 are the uninformed parents. You have the $400 model, they will have no idea about harddrives, wireless controllers but they will see that other 360 listed that is $100 cheaper than yours.

The PS2 launch was big screw up by Sony. They underestimated how many people would want a PS2 not only to buy games but also to use as a DVD player(DVD players werent dirt cheap yet). They didnt ship enuff units and lost alot of potential sales. No one has made that mistake since. The 360 wont be collecting dust on shelves but I think you'll find the scarcity much closer to the PSP, DS and Xbox launch situation. Alot of stores will be sold out at times but they wont be impossible to find.

              Re: selling an x360

I am getting one from gamestop and one from wal-mart. I preordered both to ensure that I get at least one on launch day. I aim to cancel one or the other, but I may go the ebay route of just get both and take one of them back to wal-mart.

I'm sure I would have no problem selling a $800 bundle for well over $1000 if the shortages are what I expect them to be. It's just a moral issue to me. Do I want to sell one of them for a profit and deny a customer the product. I guess they had the same opportunity as I did to preorder, but I would feel weird about it.

We'll see what happens. I have a feeling that you could sell a $399 X360 for at least double the price, the day after Thanksgiving.

I echo this sentiment. Bad economy or not, do you have any idea how many people list video games as their #1 or #2 hobby? It used to be just kids, but now the demographics are insane. It's basically all kids. And all teenagers. And all males 18 - 35 (well, not all, but a whole lot). The Video Game industry is now competitive with just about any other entertainment industry out there. I'm not saying that every single person in these demographic groups plans to buy a 360 this year - that's ludicrous - in fact, I'm sure it's far less than half that amount. Even so, that is STILL a ton of people, and my doubt is more based on MS getting enough consoles out than that everyone in America wants to buy one.

I think this argument probably also depends on where you live. Try getting a 360 without pre-ordering before Christmas in the mid-west, and you may have a different experience than if you try to get one in Manhattan.

Finally, speaking of different regions, don't forget that MS has to supply the demand outside the US too. And in Japan, every kid and teenager really will want one of these on launch.

                    No.

First of all any Xbox 360 produced in the US will be an NTSC based system. Anything else in the world will be a PAL based system. I highly doubt Microsoft will produce and of their PAL systems here in the US meaning they will have production plants throughout the world to take care of foreign supply.

Sales outside of the US will have no affect on our supply of next generation Xboxs.

Aside from that I have no doubt Microsoft will have the 360's flowing at launch. They won't make the same mistake Sony did with the PS2 because if they are available, they will be sold, which means more $$ for Microsoft.

Don't count on any supply shortages.

Ill just go to walmart release day here in indiana and I bet there will be at least 30 or 40 in stock if not more. Should be easy to get one at a retailer like a walmart or kmart.
