Re: Why are many people getting a next-gen system?
My PS2 is starting to fall apart so I might as well upgrade to a 360 considering that I can afford it (sort of).
I like pretty things like graphics.
Gameplay should be better too (eventually) with the greater processing power and physics.
New technology is fun to toy around with when on holiday breaks.
Besides, I still boot up my NES from time to time because I love the gameplay in some of those old games, but they can't keep me occupied for as long as the new stuff can.Comment

Re: Why are many people getting a next-gen system?
I am getting a next gen system because it is the next big thing. I am a graphics whore also and i want something different. I want real physics and new animations for sports games. I just cant wait any longer so i am going to try and get an xbox 360 at launch.Comment

Re: Why are many people getting a next-gen system?
I'll be waiting for both systems to mature a bit. Right now I'm still excited about some PS2 games coming up next year. As far as graphics go, I love them (who doesn't?) but you know the saying, "Beauty fades..." well I've played quite a few games that got boring real quick after the initial oohs and ahhs. For this next generation, I'm content on staying patient till I see some games that get me interested. And hopefully things will be cheaper by then heh.Comment

Originally posted by BlzerAnd be honest. The main reason that I ask this is because I feel that a lot of people that have said in the past about ANY game: "The graphics don't matter. It's the gameplay that's what's important." If anybody that's ever said that includes something about graphics in their post, then I feel that maybe graphics do matter a little more than you thought.
I mean, sure... they'll have more power and memory, so they can hold more information such as animations, commentary, framerate, whatever. But if it's graphics... then all of you that talked about gameplay being the only thing that matters (no matter what the graphics are like) need a reality check, and to see if a next-gen console really is right for you.
I'm not getting one any earlier than Christmas 2006, and that's a promise. I don't know which one I'd get, though. I'll have to look at both at them. Case in point: I am a graphics whore, and it will be the main reason I'm getting one. I never could play a solid sports game if it didn't look the part.
Graphics do matter.. If the 360 had worse graphics then the Xbox, but had quicker load times, better live functions, bigger worlds, better gameplay & AI the system wouldn't sell peanuts.. Whenever I hear these words, graphics don't matter, I shake my head..Redskins Fan. The 82 Smurfs will never die. 83/88/92 NFL world champions!!

Re: Why are many people getting a next-gen system?
I'll eventually get an X360 or PS3 once I get some extra money. I think it's ok if you still have the current gen consoles for a year after the next gen comes out. After that tho they're pretty much obsolete IMO.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Why are many people getting a next-gen system?
I really want a 360, but one of the main reasons is that the games will start to dwindle down on the oringinal Xbox, and most of the games are sports games that are just a roster update. (Like those Maddens for the PS1)Comment

That goes up tenfold if the launch involves a football game.Comment

Re: Why are many people getting a next-gen system?
The graphics add to the realism more than anything else in my opinion. Take GTA for example. I never really got into that game. It's fun for a few minutes but the graphics were so bad I lost interest. The characters hands look like shoeboxes. For me, that's a deal-breaker because I don't "buy" it.
Having better graphics this gen is a huge plus to me. Other factors for me are:
1) New controllers (no more black and white buttons)
2) New Xbox Live interface/features
3) New features (download pictures, transfer MP3's from computer)
4) Games that will be coming out that won't be available for the current gen systems.
I got in on the Xbox late, so I want in on this one starting from the ground-floor.Comment

Re: Why are many people getting a next-gen system?
I'm getting it for the graphics and the anticipation of better gameplay, although I'm not sure how a more advanced system can produce better gameplay. I like the Madden screenshots, but I would really like to see some video of actual gameplay, rather than instant replay and upclose still shots.Comment
