How much better do games look in HD?

I'm getting an XBOX 360 but I only have a 27" Sony WEGA so I obviously can't play games in HD. How much better do graphics on current-gen games look on an HDTV compared to that of a standard TV? Is the graphical difference big enough that I should buy an HDTV just for the 360?

Could anyone post a side by side comparison possibly?

I've seen nba 2k3 in 720p and it just about made it look and almost feel like a different game.

I could be slightly exxagerating, but im not. Its pretty amazing, crystal clear and does wonders for player models and characters.
