    XBox 360 surround sound question

I currently have a Sony 5.1 surround sound system. Unfortunately, my receiver is about 10 years old and doesn't have Dolby Digital or DTS capabilities.

I have a 51-inch Sony widescreen HDTV, and I will have an XBox 360 next week. I'd like to hook up the 360 to surround sound, which leads me to my question: Will I have to buy a new receiver to have surround sound, or can I get by with my current setup?

Also, if I do need to buy a new receiver, does anyone have any suggestions on a reasonably-priced ($200-300 range) unit? Or would I be better off just buying a new surround sound package that includes both the receiver and speakers?

I am somewhat of a video game surround sound newcomer, so any suggestions or tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: XBox 360 surround sound question

You will need to get a new receiver capable of 5.1 surround sound to get true surround sound. For a new receiver I would recommend this one.
