Linking MP3 player to XBox 360

Has anyone had any success linking up a non-Ipod mp3 player to your XBox? I hooked mine up, and according to my mp3 player, it's connected, but when I go to the media section in the dashboard, the link for the portable players and such are all greyed out. Any ideas? I tried several times and couldn't get it to work.

I even tried my ipod and all the songs show up, but each has a red circle with the slash through it and I cannot get them to play. Still trying to figure this out.

I can't get mine to play either, I have a Dell DJ. Nothing. Why would only IPod's work?

You have to download the free codec from the marketplace to get the songs to play.

Once you download that, it's golden.

I'm looking around the marketplace now and don't see a codec. I have a Creative Zen Micro and the 360 won't recognize that, either.

Yep, you need the codec if your songs are in AAC format.

Where the hell is the download located in the Marketplace? I couldn't find it anywhere.

Go to "Game Downloads". Go over to "All Games" and click on "Alphabetical List of Games". Then scroll down to "Optional iPod Support" and download the file.

P.S. I looked for a while for this one. I was having the same problem as you. Hope this helped you.

Speaking of music. If I burn some cd's on my 360, can I listen to them while I play diffrent games?

I use a Sandisk 512 MB MP3 player, had no problems at all getting songs to play on the 360. I didn't download any codecs either.

Now I just stream the music from my PC using Windows Media Connect.

so I guess you can't listen to the songs you've downloaded from iTunes on the 360 since the songs are protected, right?
