    XBOX Problem (not 360)

I figured since a lot of people here had old xbox's I would ask here first, but basically in a nut shell when I turn on my XBOX most of the time it will make this loud, I guess I would describe it as a "grinding noise". Sometimes I've even had to turn on and off my XBOX 5-10 times before it doesnt do it again on startup.

Just wondered if anyone had a similair problem and how/if they solved it. (though I have a feeling its a sign of the system getting ready to die) Thanks.

Sounds like it's the Hard Drive being cranky.

That's what I thought but I'm afriad to play a game while it does that. (dont know if it hurts the disc or what) Just spent 10 minutes off and on just now and it wont stop making the noise.

I had the exact same problem about three months ago. I tried everything to clean it and fix, following all kinds of online guides and stuff. Eventually I gave in and just bought a new one and I haven't had any problems since.

That sucks, I think I would rather save up the money for a 360 though, rather than spend $130 on a current system and end up shelling out more money for a 360. Damn.

If its the hard drive couldn't I just buy a cheap 10 GB one or something and put that in? (would be cheap too)

I'm not really sure, I had a hard enough time dismantling and cleaning my system, I wouldn't dare try and put in a seperate HD. But if you're more technologically/electronically inclined than me then go for it.

And I also had to debate about dropping another $140 for a brand new Xbox or saving up for a 360, but IMO I don't think a 360 is worth a purchase yet or in the near future. But I only play sports games so I have a different opinion than most.

Yeah I see what you mean, of course if I had the $400 + tax + warranty right now I'd get it, but I can't see myself saving up that kind of money for a while. Thanks again for the help.

Ack I almost forgot, does anyone know if/where I can find an XBOX for less than $130?
