    Microsoft comments on PS3

"During the 33rd Annual UBS Global Media Conference, Microsoft's Bryan Lee, Corporate Vice President & CFO Home & Entertainment, stated that the Xbox 360 is slightly more powerful than the upcoming Sony PlayStation 3.

"With Sony if they do hit the specs which they've said they'll have there's a debate, there's a couple of categories where they outdo us, there's several categories where we outdo them. On balance I think most people who study the space will tell you our system is slightly more powerful then theirs from a hardware standpoint. But for the purposes of this discussion I think it's fair to say they're both Ferraris"" (http://www.gameshout.com/news/122005/article1891.htm)

what do they take the audience as fools or something? Obviously each company will attempt to badmouth the other, so there's no point even in paying much attention to what is being said...they all are biased.

Yes they do, because there are plenty of morons and those with no life who buy into this crap.

              Sony Speaks about PS3

And they do say that the specs they gave have not been revised.

Which obviously means that PS3 is more powerful.

I'm not saying PS3 is better than Xbox360, but that Lee's statement is false.

It's a very tough thing to project either way.
Raw power, per se, doesn't necessarily mean that much - it's how it's utilized - and these two systems will very relatively close in that regard.
There are a lot of legitimate arguments regarding whether the PS3 will actually deliver on it's promise.

It'll be a dazzling system, of course - but those of you who remember the spces and tech demos of the Emotion Engine have some idea of Sony's hype vs. performance.

Of course, Microsoft is touting their machine, but at least Lee sounded reasonable about it - admitting that each machine will outperform the other in some respects (quite likely true), and that both machines are "Ferraris" (absolutely true).

Compared to his Sony counterpart - Kuturagi-san, who routinely insists that the PS3 will all but cure cancer and tuck you into bed at night with a lullaby - I'd consider Lee's statements to be downright reserved.

Excellent point and Bill Gates earlier in the year echoed those same thoughts. He had the most reasonable comments out of all that i've heard in the 360 vs PS3 debate. He said comparing the two systems is like trying to compare a Ferrari to a Lamborgini. Both cars are very fast.

He went further to state that the performance gap between both systems are too close to call. There will be some things the 360 will do better than the PS3 and vice versa.

EA's President has been on record to echo Gates comment. It's all about how you utilize each system which is where I agree with sdrotar. Look at what Namco and Polophony Digital has been able to do with the PS2 already. Some of their games look as good or better than Xbox games.

The problem is that only developers with deep pockets will be able to afford development cost for PS3 games. From Software the makers of the Armored Core Series will also be developing for the 360 for this reason. Bethesda Software dropped The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion from the PS3 and they say it's because of the the high cost Blu Ray technology.

I own a 360 and am looking forward to the Playstation3 as well, Sony's system should be sweet as well.
