According to a spokeswoman for Microsoft, retailers are being told today not to promise any Xbox 360 pre-orders until after Christmas.
Today, Microsoft is informing retailers not to promise anymore pre-order units for the Xbox 360 until after Christmas. However, Microsoft will try to supply and meet the pre-orders by Christmas, but there are no guarantees.
It is a very strange time for the Microsoft Xbox 360, when shortages were confirmed before the November 22nd launch. However, many retailers accepted pre-orders hoping that they would be met sometime in December or before Christmas.
Eventually, Microsoft will catch up on inventory demands, which seem to
be blamed on a shortage of chips to complete Xbox 360 orders.
Some retailers such as Wal-Mart are actually accepting "layaway" options, which allows consumers to put some money down now, and buy later when shipments arrive. Some retailers will nolonger accept pre-orders until shipments and allocations for inventory are confirmed.
Some consumers who have an Xbox 360 are having zero problems with the units, while other consumers have reported defects such as scratched discs, and overheating problems. There is still a class action suit pending from a Chicago man against Microsoft, stating that they shipped defected merchandise, knowing that there were problems.
If you did pre-order an Xbox 360, Microsoft is not saying that you will not receive your unit in time for Christmas, however, there is a bigger chance that you will not have the unit until late December, early January.
