    Guitar Hero

I was looking around in Best Buy, doing some Christmas shopping, when I came across a PS2 with the game "Guitar Hero" set up on it. It has a nifty little guitar controller that goes with it too. Intrigued, I tried it, and I must say that it is probably the most new, innovative game I have played in quite some time, even if I can't play a guitar to save my life.

Has anyone on here played Guitar Hero? And is there any chance that it will come to XBOX (I understand it is only on the PS2 right now)?

If you're a terrific guitarrist, does it help at all? Is it anything like guitar when playing?

Definitely! I have played Bass for over 20 years and I can't turn this game all the way up.. If you are a really good guitar player it will put you to the test.. Check out IGN's review of the game.. the guy that wrote the review is a really good guitar player.

Here is a link to the review http://ps2.ign.com/articles/663/663674p1.html
        they gave it a 9.2

        "Closing Comments
Guitar Hero is pure bliss, on a stick even. It's got a fantastic soundtrack that's blended incredibly well into the game, a great peripheral in the SG guitar controller and well, that's really what it's all about. The game is just fun. Pure, unadulterated fun, and that's all there is to it. Buy this. Now."

          Cool. Thanks.

Yeah... I saw a video of some people playing it. Looks tough!

Are the buttons sensitive? Hopefully they are... they seem to fat and hard to press. But, that's just from looks, not feel.

How much is it? I think I'll get this one for Christmas.

And how many songs are there?

          Thanks.

            Re: Guitar Hero

It's $79.99. It's sold out everywhere but ebgames.com. It didn't even get released in this city but I disgruntedly ordered it online(cost a lot once converted to Candian + tax) and it should be here tomorrow.

            47 songs:

30 lisenced covers that make up the carrer mode. (Can listen to parts of them here: http://www.guitarherogame.com/music.asp The Hendrix song on the site has lyrics but it doesn't in the game)

15 from the bands that people that made the game are in.

            1 from a contest winner.

1 from Zakk Wylde's Black Label Socitey that he gave them for free cause he wanted to be in the game.

Even the guy that made God of War says it's game of the year,he attempts to play More Than a Feeling (December 14th entry): http://www.davidjaffe.typepad.com/

Well, unfortunately... I don't really like any of those songs. But, it's all about the game though, right?

About the guitar.. ya the buttons are big but you can do some pull-offs and hammer on's..... The Bark at the moon solo is a tough one to pull off .. I didn't think I would like alot of the songs but once I started playing them I kind of dug them - You guys will not regret getting this game>> it is the most fun I have had with a game this year... Please come back and give us your impressions...!!! And be sure and do the tutorial..

I think it's the first game to score 3 11/10 reviews:

http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3145313&did=1 (offically scored a 10 but they wanted to give it 11)

the games looks great no doubt, but if I am not a big fan of rock music, is this game still worth getting for me?

someone convince why a hip hop fan like me, should buy this game?

I went back to Best Buy to play this again, and I'm so hooked that I went ahead and bought this game for myself for Christmas, for PS2.

As for convincing you, well, you probably have never played a video game like this before, ever. It is completely innovative and paving new ground in an otherwise-stale video game market, in my opinion. On top of that, the game is very well done. It no doubt deserves all the praise it's getting.

                        Re: Guitar Hero

Not here yet. It's shipped but since it's to Canada I can't track it and find out where it is or when I'm getting, others said they got it the next day. Still no stores with it either so I guess they just won't get it.

I'm personally not sure how to convince someone that likes hip hop to get this since I like almost all kinds of music hip hop included. Run DMC used guitar lots is all I can think of.

Here's something from the producers blog that might help:

"There's a simple story that came from the EB managers show when we demoed GH to basically all of their managers and industry folk. There was this store manager that walked up to take a look at the game. One of our guys offered for him to try out the game and he simply refused. "nah, I'm not into rock. I'm a DJ. I'm into Hip Hop." It's not like there aren't black guys that are into rock but this guy screamed of hip hop, from his dress to his style of walk. Corey stuck with it and convinced him to give it a try. Like many people we started him off with "I love Rock and Roll" on easy. (ironic huh... a bit of brain washing?) Corey walked him through it and the guy put on the head phones. He managed to get through the song and did a great job for his first time. (must be his rhythm from being a DJ) He took off the head phones and shook his head. "man that's a fun game. When does this come out?""

Just an FYI for those looking to purchase this game, which I highly recommend - the cost is $69.99 US. I believe the $79.99 cost is for Canadian - am I right, goh?

Whether you like rock and roll or don't, this game is simply a blast. It really gives you the illusion that you're "in the game" and that you're really playing guitar. I don't play guitar, but I may start just because of this game. If you read the forums @ www.guitarherogame.com, you'll see a lot of others like me who really do love this game. You owe it to yourself to not just play, but experience this game.
