I know I don't have it hooked up right.

I read someplace on this thread that a guy such as myself was having trouble hooking up his 360. Well I believe that thread is deep in the pile so I will now be stupid, and ask the same question?

I don't have a HDTV nor plasma or projection TV. I have standard TV with only one output for my TV. It's for the cable. I have no other input or output slots in my television. For my X-box I used and RF switch and it was real easy to hook up. And about a week before I got my system I hustled around to get a "broken" VCR. So that I could use RCA cables for better visuals and my home stereo for surround sound. I read on Gamespot that the RF switch if used on the new 360 doesn't do it justice, and that the RCA cables that come with the system and use of a VCR help out the way the game looks on a non HDTV. I saw some pictures and saw they were right so that is why I decided to go the VCR/RCA cable route.

Now before I hooked the system up my TV cable worked fine and after I lost use of my TV. I've got no cable anymore. And when playing games(in Surround Sound) my TV doesn't have sound coming from it as well. But, when I turn on my stereo and my VCR and my 360 my game works fine. It's gotten to the point where I just don't care about anything else as long as the game works when I turn it on. I jiggled and pulled and adjusted every wire many times in the back of my VCR and stereo for a month with only losing battles. So now I am here to ask what that guy had asked? What the hell am I doning wrong? Do I even need a broken VRC to hook up my system? I don't know?

Damn, son, get yourself a tv that has some friggin' RCA composite video inputs. I don't know why you would want to go drop 400 bucks on a system when the only way for you to hook it up to your existing tv is through a VCR, especially when you have to go scramble to even find one of those.

You are aware that you can buy even a total POS TV from somewhere like Wal Mart that has at least RCA inputs for 100-150 bucks, right?

You could send me your 360 and not worry about this problem any more.

Thanks for your caring and quick responses. As for my 360 it's in the mail.... You guys are right about my TV I spent all of my money on the system and it's accessoris, PLUS games. I new I wasn't going to be able to afford a HDTV. But, maybe I'll look into getting a newer set.

the way you are hooking it up is wrong. Macrovision hinders the picture and maybe sound. You need a direct input to the TV.

Why not get a conveter box? Hook up your 360 and tv to that. Get rid of the crappy vcr.

This item below will take care of some of your problems, if you are not using something similiar to this you will lose sound and video quality hooking from an RF connector. I actually have my systems on an older tv going from the pelican box game changer to this below then to the tv. It worked for the 360 before I moved it to my monitor to get back my HD signal.

Do I still need to keep my "broken VCR" to have my system work? Or can I buy this and bypass all that mess and hook it from the TV, to the Converter box to my stereo. Thanks for the answer....

So Xbox 360 doesn't have a regular RF adapter like the original Xbox?

No it does not. MS is assuming that no one still has a TV with no video inputs (seriously).

                          You can retire the VCR.
