Great Article about the XBOX 360's Faults.

I love my 360 but I do agree with this groups assesment of the system.

While I don't dispute overheating issues I have not had any problems. I build my own PC's and I used a little common sense in my 360 setup. I realized that we are dealing with a very high end Power Mac and G5 CPU put out a lot of heat.

I agree with the article that future yields will probably produce less heat as well.

So there are no pressure sensitive butons? THat is why I can't throw bullet passes on madden, at leat that mistery is solved.

        A couple of thoughts:

        1. Pressure sensitive buttons - I've never liked them on the PS2. They're too hard to gauge sensitivity on and are lousy for games like Gran Turismo. I always found it excessively difficult to have a low throttle level on a turn simply because the difference between a light press and a firm press was so little. The shoulder mounted triggers are just vastly superior at these sort of commands in my opinion.

        2. Altogether, the things that these guys think should have been in the system would have jacked the price of the console up by a ton. With all the different capabilities that they wish were in there and better hardware like a larger harddrive then you have to think you would be looking at a $500 premium system. There just had to be a line somewhere for Microsoft.

        3. The unpowered fans are just plain stupid. I'm willing to bet everyone with a 360 would prefer an extra couple of decibles of system noise to occational crashes or meltdowns.

No pressure-sensitive face buttons? As one poster already mentioned, no wonder why I couldn't put more on the ball in Madden. That seems like a step-backwards, to me.

I dont think this is accurate, did Sega Genesis have Pressure Sensitive buttons. What about SNES, pressure sensitive buttons mean its how you press the buttons not how long you hold a button. Think about madden throwing a fade versus throwing a post. One is a quick tap and the other is a hold throughout the throwing animation.

madden doesn't use pressure sensitive buttons as a racing game would, they go by how long the button is being pressed. tap the button for lob pass, hold button down for bullet pass. if it doesn't work, might be an EA problem.

I agree with some of that.

But how is no web browser a design flaw? Having a web browser opens yourself up for so many problems, and that is what a PC is for. I saw on G4 that the PSP is getting hacked and filled with viruses when people use the browser.

Also, software features can be added over the lifetime of the console through downloadable updates. Support for new codecs, MSN Music, better DVD playback, etc. Microsoft did say they plan to have some big updates for the 360 about year after it releases.

Mistake #5 is funny, because he basically solves the problem himself.

Maybe I'm not hardcore enough of a gamer, but I don't mind letting other people log into my Xbox 360 as myself and play online, adding losses to the record. I'm also lazy – I don't want to have to enter a password every time I boot the Xbox 360 and want to login into Xbox Live.

Some of the complaints are indeed legitimate IMO. Overall though, I still think the 360 has a good run ahead of it. Obviously the launch games aren't that hot, but neither were the PS2 launch games, remember The Bouncer? It's gonna take time to truly tap into the power of the console. The defective consoles as well as the avaiability of the consoles issues need to be taken care of first.

I bet somewhere in history, someone wrote out a list of designer flaws about toilet paper
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I don't enjoy the Madden series and only played the game briefly so I was just playing it like I would 2k, where it is how hard you press the button. I still maintain that it is a step backwards for MS to not include pressure sensitive buttons, though.

I second that. Everyone's needs/wants are different. Myself personally, I just want a game box. The DVD player is nice as well. Checking email, surfing the web, ripping music, etc. I don't need all that. Video game consoles are shooting to become full blown entertainment centers. That's fine for them, or anybody else that wants to do all that. But for me, I just wanna play games and watch movies.
