I have a feeling that this ain't true. I'm gon wait til CES and get official word from Sony. I can't see them doing nothing to online. I just can't see that. Not with all these other features they tryin ta add. I mean look, it's going to have a n OS.

I've never heard anything more hyped as far as impact goes as online play. It doesn't replace social aspect of gaming playing against people you know.Comment

Re: No online service for PS3?
Originally posted by mgoblueI'm not saying I lost interest in PS3, I just think that their online strategy is severely lacking. It doesn't take away from any specific game, true, but Xbox Live just adds a lot of bells and whistles that drastically improve the online experience IMO. I can be playing some random game offline (but still be logged into Live), get an invite, and then go play a game against someone online. Little things like that make the experience better for the user. IMO it's the little things that will separate the consoles, because they'll both be stellar with the games.
again it depends per user, I don't think the avg gamer cares for bells and whistles. I mean I heard the stats for xbox live last time around was that socom 2 for ps2 had more users on it then everyone on live. That kinda says something about online gaming. Now we are in next-gen and I do partially agree that ps3 should improve their online service, but I personally won't be disappointed if they miss the little things.
All that matters to me is being able to play quality games such as the GTA series, gran turismo, nba 2k6, etc. Being able to play online with extras is just adding whip cream on pumpkie in that I can live without whip cream. But whomever can't might be taking it way too seriously IMO. Kinda tells me that there might be ulterior motives as to why they don't want or like ps3.
Like I said it will matter per user and it seems that majority of OS cares for an in-depth online service.Last edited by bball_1523; 12-25-2005, 04:02 PM.Comment

But until I hear $ony confirm or deny their lack of online strategy I would take that article with a grain of salt.Comment

Not every game is played online, but you are always online on the 360. Meaning if you are playing COD2, Madden, or anything else single player, you can still see what your friends are playing. You can even talk to another player while playing your single player game. I dont have alot of gaming time these days, so instead of contantly changing games to see if friends are online, I can just go to the dashboard. If they are playing a game online or offline, or even watching a movie I can send them an invite to a game.
Most people talk about next generation expectations and they include graphics etc... but online is just as big of a part of my expectations. Maybe just just me, but in this day I expect more. Ive been able to play games by myself for a couple of decades now, even the best single player game has limited replay value for me.
I would say no online component hurts my interest in the PS3. It doesnt kill it, but its no different (to me) than Nintendo not supporting HDTVs. A few years ago that was fine, but I EXPECT it these days.Last edited by Virix; 12-25-2005, 08:18 PM.Comment

Re: No online service for PS3?
id rather put my money towards a game or game subscription than an entire online service like live. Why pay $100 bucks a year for online when it can be free. I could care less about bells and whistles. Plus ESPN and EA games let you see who's playing what anyhow through one game...Comment

I realize not everyone feels the same way, but I cant fathom less than $5 a month for a service like live being too expensive. Like everything else in the world, you get what you pay for. A free service generally isnt going to be as good as a pay service. If you can live with the free service, more power to you, but I expect (and am willing to pay for) more. I spend more than $50 a year on chewing gum.Last edited by Virix; 12-25-2005, 08:57 PM.Comment

Re: No online service for PS3?
I also think having a service like live makes developers concentrate more on online play and online games. With Xbox, it seemed like there was a good online FPS coming out every month. PS2 didn't have that much besides Socom, and I believe a lot of the games on both, like Rainbow 6, were stripped down on PS2.
Having a service like Live will make online gaming more mainstream I think. Microsoft pushes companies to support online play. I think requiring developers to at least make games "Live aware" will get more and more to think about expanding on that and adding more online features. A strategy that just supports online play, and then just lets the developers do what they want with it won't do that.
For the price of one game a year, and less now that games are $60, I think Live is easily worth it. I would not go back to playing online on a PS2 like service.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: No online service for PS3?
I personally think that Sony should have gotten into the business... online gaming is becoming more and more popular and the xbox easily won that battle against the ps2.
now sony had a chance to "catch up" but didn't even make it to the playing field.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

OMG... They are having online play! It just means there is no unified online like XBOX Live. No where does it say they won't have games online.http://flotn.blogspot.com
