Re: ATI Says PS3 Is 'Unrefined'
I'm not even bothering with articles anymore. I think that the 360 is an awesome machine and will only get better.
Have you guys seen GEARS OF WAR in action. OMG!!!! Beautiful
I will worry about the PS3 and the power when CES comes around next month (January). I can't go off of tech demos and trailers that the PS3 can produce much more. If you can afford both systems, than you are in luck and can enjoy the best of both worlds.
I get so tired of bashing that goes on throughout the threads. Good thing this one has been clean so far.Comment

Re: ATI Says PS3 Is 'Unrefined'
It's definately biased, but here is the kick. He's presenting things as factual for public consumption. Any takers to dispute his claims concerning graphic chips and hardware? Even if it is biased the question is, does the truth or falsity of what he is claiming rest on his bias? That answer is no. I'm not hear to claim what is more power, what machine is going to be better, but I do think that just because someone has a certain bias that does not mean that their claims should automatically be dismissed just because I don't share it.Comment

Re: ATI Says PS3 Is 'Unrefined'
Well, LBz has a point.
Although I hate hearing competing companies talking about their competition - it's all obviously skewed to the speaker's favor - there may be kernels of truth in here.
ArsTechnica and other good tech sites has discussed this quite a bit, and I expect we'll see it more, but here are a few things to note:
-None of those vaunted PS3 "demos" at last year's E3 were from the PS3 - even as they were credited as being so. That was an absolutely distasteful sham of a display on Sony's part, and was specifically designed to mislead. They were nothing but high-quality movies, and the KillZone movie in particular was at 5 fps sped up to 60 for the display. I had never been more offended as a professional than when I sat through that - and it made even worse knowing that the average consumer doesn't know any better and ate it up.
-The Cell processor is more of a "brute force" chip. Feel free to look it up. It is a PC chip, co-designed by IBM as a way to get IBM back into the PC game while boosting the sales numbers of Sony VAIO computers.
The PS3 is essentially a testbed/Trojan horse to introduce Cell and Blu-Ray DVD tech into consumers' homes without having to do any of the marketing work.
That's perfectly sound business, of course - but it's still helpful to understand what we'll be buying next year.
Don't take this as an anti-Sony rant. It's not - in fact, I have a sneaking admiration for how effective this tactic will undoubtedly be, and I'll be pre-ordering my PS3 just like the rest of you.
It's just that no company - Sony, Microsoft, IBM, ATI - none of them are "good" or "bad". They're all trying to make money, and they'll all use different methods to do so.Last edited by sdrotar; 12-28-2005, 06:16 AM.Shawn Drotar

PS3 will probably never have a game render at 1080p as it takes a lot more assets than feesible.
720p will most likely be the most common resolution on PS3.
this has been confirmed by devs at Beyond3D
as for the article, it is true that the ATI Xenos was designed as a specialty console part with new features and RSX is based off of an Nvidia PC part.Last edited by Klocker; 12-27-2005, 06:01 PM.Comment
