Can xbox 360 be set to 480i?

I've got my 360 hooked up with the HD AV component cables to my 27" Sony Wega but the component inputs on my tv can only handle 480i(according to the manual) and the lowest setting I can see in the 360 setup is 480p.

Is there a way to set the 360 to 480i while still using the component cables?

i would say just make sure the switch on hd cables is in tv position and it should be ok for 480i.

Does an Xbox 360 only come with RGB component cables? Like, if so... can you play on a standard composite AV T.V.? How do you do that with RGB cables?

The thing is it's still set at 480p in the 360 video settings so it's trying to send a 480p signal into a tv input set for 480i.

Do the 360 HD AV Component Cables even support 480i?

The premium 360 comes with both composite and component cables. And no you can't use RGB cables without component tv inputs.

so what happens when you hook up the component and set the switch on the cable to tv vs it being on hd, is there a difference on your set? maybe just using the composite cable will give you just as good a picture.

ps: as far as the setting in the xbox360 for 480p, 720p, 1080i, don't worry about that it only comes into play if your using an hd set.

The component cables use 480i by default. As long as the switch is set to regular TV, it will be 480i.

ok i know its a bit of an expense but you guys really should think about an hdtv, i picked up a 26" acer lcd basically just for the xbox360, i know bigger is better but the price on this wasn't that bad, $900 canadian, it even has a vga input for pc connection, i was playing hh2004 on it the other day, looked better than my pc monitor

I checked the video settings again. It says the switch is set to TV like it's supposed to be and in the settings it says that it's not set for HDTV. It looks like everything is set right but the picture is still screwed up (everything black looks red) I'm pretty confident now that the problem is coming from the component cables themselves. I guess i'll have to call MS and get them to send me new ones. I hope to god it's not the 360.

Make sure you have the correct colors going to the TV.

I use the RGB cables on my normal tv and it works like a gem. It sounds like you have cables mixed up in the back of the tv. If the green is in the red slot, all the red becomes green-For instance the EA logo. Switch the cable around.

I double checked that and I do. Is it possible for component cables to cause black areas to have a red tint if they're not working right? I really hope this is the problem.

Nope, they're all in the right inputs.

do you have a set of the red, white and yellow cables laying around??? If so, put those in place of the component cables. it will work fine. If the problem goes away then you know it is something with the component cables.

The red, white and yellow cables work perfectly fine.(the ones that come attached to the 360 HD AV component cables)
