    Dumbest person on OS?

That would be me. I was kinda underwhelmed with 360's graphics considering I had an HD and thought I was playing in HD. Well I forgot to flip the HD component on the cables and now after almost a month of having the system, I see why NBA2k6 is such a beautiful game. This is great.

          Re: Dumbest person on OS?

Don't feel too stupid, EWR. I have read countless stories about how people either forgot to switch it to HD or just never saw and realized it was there in the first place. A lot of people who bought Premiums also didn't see the protective film over the disc tray door, and wondered why it wouldn't open when they pressed the button.

It's crazy how such simple things cause problems for so many people. What I really don't get is why there is a switch on the component cables at all. It sure doesn't seem like it is necessary. Every other set of components I have ever used with electronics equipment have properly transmitted and displayed a signal ranging from 480p to 1080i with no switch. Unnecessary overkill on Microsoft's part to give people some warm and fuzzy about HD being so elite that you need to select it on a switch on the video cables perhaps?

I take it no one reads instruction manuals anymore.

Instruction manuals are for wussies. Just ask Tim "the Toolman" Taylor :y4: Seriously tho some manuals are written in such a way that it goes over most people's heads.

Of course not. You aren't surprised, are you? Every day I see examples that illustrate to me just how moronic society has become in general. Just today, when I was on the phone with Microsoft getting them to ship me out another return box for my 360, I could clearly overhear other tech reps of theirs telling someone on the phone how to connect the a/v and power cables to the back of the system and to make sure they have the correct source selected on their tv. I can only imagine what the caller on the other end sounded like.

"Hey, I got me one of these new xbox 350 thingies, and its broke!"
MS rep: "Sir, is it plugged into an outlet?"
"Oh....wait, is that that thing in the wall with 2 slanty lil' holes in it?"

If any of you have attempted to call 1(800)4-MYXBOX and had to wait long periods of time before getting through, this is why. I guarantee you over 75% of the calls they are getting is due to sheer ignorance and stupidity on the user end.

Its not sheer ignorance or stupidity, some people honestly dont know.

Actually, ignorance is someone who hasn't been educated, so it isn't totally their fault.

It's Microsofts fault. Why place a switch on the darn component cables? I should be able to plug them in and turn 720p or 1080i on my 360 and be ready to go.

Not everybody that uses the component cables has an HDTV.

It doesn't take much brain power to come to the realization that every piece of consumer electronics equipment comes with an instruction/operations manual. Now, if that doesn't dawn on people then that is sad and they have bigger issues than how to properly hook their game consoles up, especially considering they obviously bought the tv they are attempting to hook it up to at some point, so they can't plead ignorance since it isn't their first electronics purchase. If they choose not to read it, and then call MS and whine when their system doesn't work, please explain to me how stupidity is not involved. It's more of a common sense issue than anything else, and frankly a lot of people seem to be severely lacking in that department nowadays.

Aside from that, I really wasn't referring to people who just either forgot to flip the switch or didn't realize it was there. Since no other component cables ever require the user to move a switch, it isn't something anyone is prepared to have to even think about. I was really talking about the idiots who buy a state of the art game system, yet have no idea how to hook up a VCR let alone this, and then instead of trying to do their own legwork and read the manual they obviously know is there, they call tech support because they need everyone to hold their hand.

I had the same problem for about two hours on launch playing my 360. I was playing on an HDTV but didn't hit the switch. I was thinking wow this looks good but not as good as I thought. Then I found out about the HD switch, DOH!! After that if felt like it was christmas morning, lol. I was basking in HD glory.
