Nintendo DS Sells 10 Million Worldwide

"It may not be a shocker, but Nintendo does well with portable gaming. The company announced today that the Nintendo DS has now sold approximately 4 million units in North America, bringing the worldwide total to about 10 million units so far.

Of course, DS owners weren't sticking with PictoChat. Hot Wi-Fi-enabled racer Mario Kart DS sold more than 1 million copies in seven weeks, while canine simulator Nintendogs topped 1.5 million units since it left the kennel in August.

Nintendo's DS Wi-Fi service has also been popular: in its first seven weeks, the service hosted more than 10 million game connections and more than 550,000 unique visitors.

In Japan, Nintendo's dual-screened system has surpassed 5 million units sold, and European sales should easily surpass the 1 million Nintendo reported in June."

WOW, that's a lot of DS's sold in 2 years.

I honestly don't see why anyone would want one of those. From the commercials it looks basically useless.

i started a 2nd job where i'm not doing much and i'm looking into a handheld. Is DS worth it? any sports titles to look out for? or should i spend my money on a psp

the graphics and controls are much better on the psp than ds, without a doubt. If you are into originality, go with the ds. if you want a powerful multi-dimensional machine with ps2 quality graphics, go with the psp.

I'm in the same situation as you, except my main job is one with a huge amount of downtime. Handhelds are a must or I'd get canned for sleeping on the job. In a battle of just PSP titles vs DS Titles I'd pick the PSP easy. I think the selection of DS games pales in comparison to what the PSP has. But with the DS you have to factor in all the great GBA games available too.

I'd slightly lean towards the DS myself. Better battery life, cheaper games and a HUGE library of GBA games. But if graphics are a major deal to you then I'd say PSP is the easy choice.

Get the PSP if you just want ports of your favorite console games. Get the DS if you want original content. And by original I'm not referring to the touch screen, but that games are made for the DS as opposed to being made for the PS2/Xbox (which is what most of the PSP games are).

It's such a tradeoff between both systems. PSP has the better sports titles while DS has the innovative non sports titles.

If you can afford both, I would go with both imo.

I have ZERO interest in the DS. Not sure if it's an age thing or what, but their games just don't appeal to me. Make me feel like I'm 8 years old.

I bought a GBA and regretted it. Enjoying the PSP, expecially SDvRaw, Socom, MAT.... Funny, I bought the system for sports, and the only one I've found worth picking up was MLB.

Can't wait for this year's title! But yeah... the DS just doesn't seem all that great to me.

Just my take.
