What is going on at Take Two?

After a lackluster FY2005, the publisher lowers Q1 guidance on Top Spin 2 and College Hoops 2K6 postponements, predicts late PS3 start.

Take-Two takes financial hit, delays games

I sure hope Take Two & VC don't mess things up. It’s exactly things like this that make companies like ESPN and the NFL go with more of a sure thing. I’m mad as hell about the exclusive rights that EA has but when it’s all over the news about Take Two’s CEO being voted one of the worse in the business and now TT is going to have to restate their corporate earnings, sponsors, companies and brands then to shy away from business that do that. How is Take Two going to keep in good graces with the NBA & NHL if this is happening? It really wouldn’t surprise me if EA got the exclusive rights the NHL now. I’m a Big 2K sports guy. I love and support the company by purchasing all their products and spreading the word so my friends can also. It just makes me sad and upset that Take Two is making it so easy for EA. Please get your house in order and keep producing great games. If the end is near it will be nothing but the company’s fault.

The end is not near. TT owns Rockstar who makes a fortune. All video game companies took a financial hit this Q because Christmas sales were down across the board.

I'm surprised they didn't even mention the loss of the NFL 2K series.

This is where Kush really needs to step up with their baseball game. They have the license (well... share it), and they need to step up and dominate over EA.

Don't worry, EA has had the same problems at times. It's all part of the business. No corporation could continue to make money a quarterly basis unless you are MS.

Yup, no problem at all for TT. They will regroup and come back strong as ever. Especially with Next Gen approaching rapidly. All of the games that they have lined up are sure to get them back into form.

Are there any numbers out there for their sports games? How many have sold so far? And if it makes sense for them to keep making them? I dont know what i would do without 2k sports, as thats about all i play, but it may come down to cutting ties from their sports franchises if its the cause of loss of money. I know grand theft isnt losing money, but are the titles we love so much actually making any?

All I can say is if they're going to disappear as a company(not gonig to happen, but hey) they better do two things:

First, give their formula and EVERYTHING else involving their NBA series to someone with money so that this game can be put out every year. It's the best basketball game, hands down.

And Second, make sure to completely tear up the MLB deal so that MVP can come back out.

Since this really means nothing(losing money) and all companies lose money, especially when sales as a whole are down, they'll be back up and running very soon.

Re: What is going on at Take Two?

I sure hope you are right, but it seems to me that they are playing right into EA hands. I know all companies lose money from time to time but when you have to go back and restate your corporate earnings that’s not a good thing. That’s a very good question about how much is 2K sports bringing into the coffers. I know the NFL deal hurt a lot. We still have great products in NBA 2K6, NHL 2K6, and College Hoops. Nothing is even close in comparison. The MLB deal has to cost TT a small fortune to keep the rights. I know how corporations work and it seems that TT is very vulnerable right now. EA has deep deep pockets and can last out the ride. I agree the future is bright with the New Gen Systems coming out. The question is, will TT be able to last it out and the make the games we all love to play?

That Grand Theft joint took a lot of money out their pockets though. That seemed to set them back on the real. Personally, they have a whole lot ahead of them that will put money back into their bank. The only time I'd worry about T2 is when you hear rumors of bankruptcy or things like that. When those things happen, then I'd start worrying. Until then, I'll still be anticipating every news break for the next installments.

Yeah its stupid stuff like that which can sink a company. I'll continue to buy their products. Can't Wait for Top Spin & College Hoops for the Xbox360. Lets just hope they get their act together.

Should the worst happen I would guess Microsoft wouldn't hesitate in buying them.

GTA: UK,only on Xbox 360. Sony: Microsoft:

Nothing is wrong with Take-Two. They didnt have a major release like San Andreas during 2005. When you take that game away it was a no brainer they would be hurt on the bottom line this year.

Then the "Hot Coffee" deal probably didn't help either.

Both the NHL and NBA have declined EA's offer for exclusive deals.

EA had got to be at this news
