question about downloads

I own a 360 and have a gold xbox live membership.I was in eb and wanted to buy splinter cell chaos theory. I asked the clerk if it was backward compatible but she said i had to download something off the computer onto a disk and then download it into the 360. I went onto xbox live on the computer and i had to give my xbox live password. I have no clue what my password was(didnt write it down). I was wondering if i just bought the game and put it on would the download material be available as soon as i turn on the game instead of having to change passwords, using dvds and going through the bs.

The only BC game I've played so far is Halo 2. To get the emulator, I put in the game, then it said there was an update that had to be downloaded. It downloaded it, then restarted the game and I was ready to go. Don't know if that's how the clancy games work, but it should happen when you put the game in.

You put the game in the 360 and it'll download the emulator.
