Which wireless router do you use for Xbox Live?

Ok, f*** it, I"m giving up on this P.O.S. router I got for Christmas. I think its more concerned with getting a stronger signal 50 feet away than it is 10 feet away to my 360. I've been online with Linksys a few times, but nothing has really worked. So anyways, what I wanna know is, what router do you use and how do you like it?

From what I've seen on here in a few different threads, this one seems to be popular


The above on is the WRT54GS. SO, which one do you use and how would you rate it? I'm going to get a new one this afternoon/evening.

I don't remember the model #, I've had it for 3 years, it's a Linksys B wireless router. My PC is on the other end of my house, no issues what so ever.

I think that is the one I have. But, I do not have my XBox hooked up wirelessly. I just have a 50 ft cable run under my house. Now I do have two laptops and a DS that run wirelessly in the house, and they work fine.

My router is on one side of my house and I can still get the signal from the other side with my laptops.

You don't need the GS model, just the WRT54g model will do fine. The speedboster is marketing fluff.

Anybody use this one? I posted over at xbox.com forums and this one is very popular over there. i checked circuitcity.com for reviews and they are overwhelmingly positive.

I would get either the DLink 624 or LInksys wrt54g, you really can't go wrong with either.

The Dlink hardly ever has rebates though, the Linksys you can usually get cheaper because it always has about $30 in rebates.

LOL, that's weird that you said that because as I hit the refresh button, I was looking at circuit city's weekly ad, and both of the routers we're talking about are 39.99, the linksys is regularly 69 and the dlink 79, and they both have rebates taking them both down to 39....

Fish, do you have comcast? cause I just read that a few people have had problems with the wrt54g and comcast cable.

I've got the WRT54g and it's been no problem...only stuff I use wireless for is mostly PSP and a friend's laptop, but haven't had any issues. I happen to be able to swing a ethernet cord over (xbox is close to pc and router), so I just do that.

BTW, here's the setup. I live in a one level house just off of UT's campus with 3 other guys. We have a total of 3 laptops and 3 desktops on our wireless network, plus my 360. I'm the only one that has a clue about any of this stuff, so I'm relied on to fix it. Originally we had a basic Belkin router that worked great with xbox live, but the signal was so weak, you couldn't sit in the front of the house and get a signal. (the house is more longways than wide). The cable modem is in the back in my room. So I got a Linksys WRT54GX2 for Christmas, signal power is amazing, but the xbox live compatibility blows HARD. So I guess off to ebay for it and looks like I'll probably go pick up the DLink 624 because of the possible problems I read about with linksys wrt54g and comcast cable.

No, I have Bellsouth DSL, which I'm not very happy with but I don't have another option at the moment.

You can't go wrong with the Dlink especially at $40 after rebates. Let me know how you like it.

yeah I think that is what I'm going to go with. I'm leaving right now, hopefully I can have it up and running in an hour or two...depends if anything else in CC catches my eye. I'll let you know

I have the Linksys router (w/o Speedbooster) and Comcast broadband.

Works Flawlessly.
