    A router and live question?

This is going to be a small rant and then some questions posted to you guys to see how you feel on the subject. I will try to keep it somewhat short and keep my "problems" together.

With all the money I had to drop for the relese of the 360 makes me gind my teeth. Games are $10.00 more than the xbox b/c the company says that they are making "super products". (I've got 3 games now total $180.00)

I was one the "lucky ones" back in May to get one of the 25 systems that EB had on their first shipment. I beleive I got one of the last 3 systems left. But there was no idea of price? Until they decided to offer people 2 systems. One without a HD and one with. So, I thought that was a marketing plan to make money. I had to spend the extra $100.00 for the HD.

All gaming accessories are $10.00 more than the xbox. I ended up getting a wired controller and a plug-n-play. I have not used the plug-n-play yet. To also tie into the fact that I have not got the live package dud to the fact that I don't play on-line. And the wireless network plug is $100.00 not to mention the price of a router.

Now we also "have to get" a HDTV and you guys know how much these cost. The price is super high. All so you can "get in the game".(lol) I went through the same path when the xbox was released. Paid top price for the release of the system only to have the "Thompson" driver go bad. I had my system in a bubble in my bedroom. I'd go over friends houses and they would have the cover off their system or have it proping up the coffee table and theirs still works. Microsoft reps didn't want to admit to me that the driver was faulty. They wanted ME to pay for their 'FAULTY, NON-FINISHED" work. Bull, they would refuse to fix it. My brother went through the same thing when he got his PS2 on release. High priced and remeber it was made with a cheaper laser eye. He had to send it to Sony and pay 3/4 of what he had just paid for the new system. After seeing what he had gone through I wasn't about to take the same path with my system. So if my 360 conks out after my waranty is up it's to damn expensive to drop money on a new one.

Here's my questions that I'm having trouble mulling over....

For someone who doesn't play on-line games..Should I invest in the adapter(b/c my bedroom is upstairs and my computer is downstairs)and a router, so I can connect to the 360 on-line hub at least?

Or should I spend a lesser amount of cash and buy cable to run along the same path through my house my TV cable did and then connect into my computer downstairs. We don't have any laptops in the house. But, my brother is getting a PS3 when it comes out and it will be in his bedroom upstairs. Should I get a router that let's you connect more than one system up to it without clogging the phone line and lets someone use the computer while I'm upstairs plying my game. Do they even make anything like this? I am new to the on-line stuff remeber. Thanks for your resonses. I am picking up a HDTV the 2nd. week of Feb., so I have some time to think about what route I need to go...

You dont have to get the Xbox 360 99$ adapter. I have a linksys adapter that has an ethernet slot in it. It gets the signal from your wireless router, then you can run the ethernet chord (just need a very short chord) to your 360. This will save you the trouble of running a chord up your stairs.

Im not sure if this is exactly what your asking. The adapter I have was only 50$.

Sounds like you have the Linksys gaming adapter, aka. wireless ethernet bridge.

Yeah, the only bad thing about it is that it doesnt have WEP. I have to use MAC addresses to secure my network.

Re: A router and live question?

My question is should I go the cheaper route and run cable through the wall?

Or should I drop money on the adapter/router?

Mind you my brother and I are not on-line people. He had on-line for his PS2 and I remeber him playing boxing, Madden, Champions of Norrath, and Resident Evil Outbreak. I only wanted to try turning into a zombie and biting somebody else on-line. But we could never get the game to connect no matter how he configured the system. I called Capcom tons of times but they never called back with any info. So my chance to play on-line was a fizzle. I never was on-line for my xbox either. So, when I buy games they have to be sports or role playing games. Due to the fact of having a high replay value. Sports games you play from season to season. And role playing games take some time getting through. The first 2 Star Wars games for example you had to go through the game 6 times to play with all the character's.

But, everyone states that they are playing on-line. That is where I am still on the fence. My brother is getting a PS3. So when he does we are going to have to get a router for the computer that permits for 2 systems to be connected if he and I decide to go the on-line road.

I prefer to play offline (mostly Dynasty modes). With 360 hooked up I can still download all the BC stuff, and get roster updates. I already had the adapter, so it wasnt like I was spending extra. If your not going to play online much, I would just run the ethernet cable up to your room every so often to get updates and such.

I though my brother and I were the only 2 who didn't play on-line? Nice to meet you.

That's what I was thinking.. I forgot to mention that once I get through a game with no replay value in it.(once I beat a game) I have to take it back to the store and in doing so get's kind of expensive. But also I've been reading that game developer's stated that in games coming out for the 360 that don't have the on-line function in their games that the developer's are going to add "add-on's or extra's" via the download. So just like the Star Wars games when they came up with the new worlds and weapons and crystals I missed that. I think the only game I might be interested in playing on-line is Huxley. I don't know when it comes out? And I also heard they may charge and additional fee on top of the standard on-line fee. If that fee it to high I'm not getting that game. But, Obivion has downloadable content. So you see why I am on the fence?
