    Here's what Boon said about the game.... And I'm officially pumped!

    "The theme of finality came up when we were determining whether we should move on to the next generation or create one last game for the current consoles," recalls Mortal Kombat's creator, Ed Boon. "Finality drove the whole story. It drove the feature sets. It's the last step in this generation. By wrapping things up, we can move on to the next generation with the slate wiped clean."

    Leaving the current generation with the series in it's current state is comparable to turning off Star Wars before the Death Star is destroyed, or The Lord of the Rings before the One Ring is cast back into the fire. In a way, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon will bring with it an end to an era -- the final battle for a generation. When the last drop of blood is spilled, Shang Tsung's deadly tournament will likely reach its conclusion. "I want to see a pan shot over a battlefield that is smoldering and littered with bodies," says Boon. "It's going to be this massive culmination of things. I can't imagine that we'll come back [in the next generation] and not have a Sub-Zero or Scorpion, but my feeling is that I would like to introduce as much newness as is possible."

    To ensure that all of the loose ends are properly tied up, every character that has ever thrown a punch in a Mortal Kombat tournament is suiting up for another round in Armageddon. "We really want to play up the nostalgia factor of it," comments Boon. Just looking at the roster of 60-plus combatants will assuredly bring back a flood of memories for fans. Did you ever really think you would see Stryker again?

    This immense roster is just a small taste of the new material that will be included in this explosive finale. This installment will also house the reinvention of the Fatality system, the implementation of the series' first create-a-fighter mode, the evolution of combat through aerial maneuvers, plus the transformation of Konquest mode -- which could very well double as a stand alone game like Shaolin Monks.

    "We can only do this mass amount of content because it's the current generation," injects Boon. "We're not reinventing the display engine." As the future of the series looms ever closer, Armageddon will serve as a bridge between generations, bringing with it a sense of closure for fans, while still leaving the series open for rebirth.

    Not sure where the quotes are from as I got it off myspace but man oh man how cool will this game be?

            i wonder how many environments there are gonna be? i remember that was one of my favorite things about the past MKs, each character had a unique environment, along with a few that everone used.

                Re: Mortal Kombat Armageddon

                heres a FAQ that was put together over at ign

                The following 57 characters from all previous Mortal Kombat games (excluding Mythologies & Special Forces) are confirmed. MK3 sub-boss Motaro might not make the cut.

                Ashrah, Baraka, Blaze, Bo' Rai Cho, Cyrax, Dairou, Darrius, Drahmin, Ermac, Frost, Fujin, Goro, Havik, Hotaru, Hsu Hao, Jade, Jarek, Jax, Johnny Cage, Kabal, Kano, Kai, Kenshi, Kobra, Kintaro, Kira, Kitana, Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Li Mei, Mavado, Mileena, Nightwolf, Mokap, Moloch, Nitara, Noob Saibot, Onaga (The Dragon King), Quan Chi, Raiden, Rain, Reiko, Reptile, Sareena, Scorpion, Sektor, Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, Sheeva, Shinnok, Shujinko, Sindel, Smoke, Sonya, Stryker, Sub-Zero, Tanya

                FATALITIES:

                Instead of performing a certain button combination and watching it unfold in front of you like a movie or play, you'll be able to control every step in Fatalities. There's currently no word on how many movements will be available due to the uncertainty of the game's memory.

                ARENAS:
                As seen in the latest February 2006 issue of Game Informer Magazine (#154), the following classic arenas will be returning:

                * Goro's Lair (MK1 - MK4)
                * The Armory (MKII)
                * The Subway (MK3)
                * The Prison (MK4)

                WEAPONS:

                Weapons will be available but it's currently unknown how they'll be obtained or used in the game.

                DEATH TRAPS & INTERACTIVE BACKGROUNDS:

                Judging by the screenshots released thus far from Game Informer, it's very likely these two popular features of Mortal Kombat: Deception will make a big impact in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

                AIR KOMBAT:
                Again judging by the screenshots available, it appears this new form of combat will play a large roll in the fighting system.

                COMBO BREAKERS:
                Will return but in what capacity is currently unknown.

                THE VAULT:

                Replacing The Krypt (as seen in MK-Deadly Alliance & MK-Deception) but serving the same purpose. Unlike MK-Deadly Alliance and MK-Deception, unlocking all items in The Vault can be done in Konquest or Arcade Mode.

                Known Game Modes

                KREATE-A-KOMBATANT:

                The new Kreate-A-Kombatant mode will resemble the popular "Creat-A-Wrestler" (CAW) in today's wrestling games. This mode allows players to create from scratch a male or female kombatant of their choosing. Not only that, players will be able to assign every attack your KAK makes and even name the 3 fighting styles to whatever you want. 5 of the 6 screens of customization options are listed and previewed below:

                Screen 2 of 6 allows Hair type change (the current options below correspond to a female KAK).

                * BUN
                * PIGTAIL
                * BRAID
                * PONYTAIL
                * HIGH PONYTAIL
                * BOB
                * GEISHA

                Screen 3 of 6 allows color changes to the upper body.

                Screen 4 of 6 allows color changes to the lower body.

                Screen 5 of 6 is the accessories options (the current options below correspond to a female KAK).

                * HEAD GEAR
                * BELT
                * WAISTCLOTH

                Screen 6 of 6 allows you to alter his or her attributes.

                * NOSE WIDTH
                * NOSE LENGTH
                * MOUTH WIDTH
                * LIP SIZE
                * CHEEKBONES
                * CHEEK WIDTH
                * JAW WIDTH
                * EYELIDS
                * EYE ANGLE
                * BREAST SIZE

                KONQUEST:

                Konquest mode is said to be based off of the MK: Shaolin Monks engine making for a separate game within itself. There's a possibility created kombatants will tie into this mode in some shape or form.

                CHESS AND PUZZLE KOMBAT:

                These mini games from MK: Deception will not be returning in MK: Armageddon. However, a "strange online multiplayer game" supporting up to 8 players at once may be replacing Chess and Puzzle Kombat.

                  Heh, breast size.

                  I bet every female created is going to have massive jugs.

                  Anyway, I can't wait for this game.

                  Cyrax was my favorite character.

                    Which means they'll be no different than the non-user created characters.

                            I can see how one could say that since MK dates back to like 1992 (14 years ago, sheesh), but every MK game that hasn't been an off-shoot game (like Mythologies and Special Forces) or a simple compilation (Ultimate MK3, Trilogy) has been pretty good and brought something new to the table. The MK games also have a rather deep story behind each character (at least the central ones), something that to this day I still don't really see in the fighter genre.

                              Well this is the supposed end of the series for most if not all of the current charactes.... They want to start fresh on the next generation of consoles... personally I think it's a mistake to get ride of guys like Scorpin, and Subzero, but I'm all for clearing up that confusing backstory of who actually controls the entire universe of Mortal Kombat.
