Freezing Problem is Due To Faulty DVD Drives

It seems there are 3 different companies that manufactured the dvd drives for the 360. Some drives are white on the inside. Some are grey. The drives are causing the freezes and MS knows about this. Here's the link.

This remeinds me of the same problem with the XBOX. One drive just kept crapping out.

Re: Freezing Problem is Due To Faulty DVD Drives

I read it but it wasn't conclusive whether a particular faulty dvd drive is the culprit. That theory has been going on for awhile now and im sure Microsoft is getting more and more feedback on what really has been causing the 360 failures.

Another theory has been that Microsoft decided in order to keep the noise level down they went with slower RPM rear fans. Well on some machines one of those fans stopped working and therefore the systems starts to overheat and stops working.

For the record my 360 has been flawless, no freezes, no three red rings, always runs slightly warm and my dvd drive is white, go figure.

We could always purchase one of the cooling fans and our problems will be solved to an nth degree. It will keep the system nice and cool.

Football, bought one of the fans and he says it's worked great so far.

My freezing problems weren't due to overheating, as my system would freeze 10 minutes after turning it on.

Re: Freezing Problem is Due To Faulty DVD Drives

The only freezing problem I have had was with NBA 2K6. I got a dirty disc error like the first time I played it. Then about 2 or 3 weeks later it would freeze up after introducing the second person for the starting lineup. I have COD2 and Tiger and both of them play fine. Mine is the grey drive on the inside I think.

I quote the same thing "NOT AGAIN'....I went through 2 "thompson driver's" that were in 2 broken xbox's. I had NO warranty so it got expensive. The third system had the good driver in it. I'm willing to bet b/c of it being 3 to 4 years until MS fixed the problem. This better not happen with the 360. I was smarter this time I got a warranty. Things are getting just to expensive to throw money around on anything.

Sorry to hear that. Were you playing a game or was the 360 just sitting idle with no disc in the drive?

Back on topic though, I'm hopeful that MS straighten's this out soon. Although I have to give them props, they sent me a brand new system due to my freezing problems.

not for nothing but.. i still have my old xbox that i bought on launch and still workin great with it's thomson drive...

but as far as the 360 is concerned, i didn't know there were 2 dvd rom drives made for it... i thought i heard something about all 360's having the same drive regardless of the color of the tray.
