    Empire at War (PC)

Anyone pick this up? I'm a sucker for games set within the Star Wars universe, so I picked it up over the weekend. I'm only through the training missions, but so far it seems like an RTS-lite of sorts. Heavy on the presentation aspects - the voice work and graphics are all top notch. But with only a two-sided conflict to work with and a limited number of units and planets, it doesn't exactly have the depth of something like Civ IV. But so far it seems pretty keen and should keep me busy until, say, Oblivion comes out. I plan on exploring it more in depth during this week.

Anyone else get it and have any thoughts?

I still have (and still enjoy) and old 2D Star Wars RTS game called 'Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds Saga. Is 'Empire At War' similar in any way?

I never played Galactic Battlegrounds, so I'm unable to compare the two games. One thing I've heard though is that EaW is lacking in the negotiation and diplomacy side of things, compared to other RTS games. The reason being, I guess, that you are at war and past the point of diplomacy.

It's a combination of Galactic Battlegrounds (land battles) and Star Wars:Rebellion (empire management/space battles).

I've heard Empire at War is different from Battlegrounds, which I have. Battlegrounds was built off the Age of Empires II: Age of Kings game engine, where as Empire at War is not.

I was considering EaW, but it just seems like the game has no depth and would grow old too fast.

So far it is. I can't speak for the game's depth though, because I've had a busy week and whatever spare time I've had has gone to FNR3. But hopefully I'll have some more impressions following this weekend.

This game is extremely addictive, but also very shallow. If you don't get into the multiplayer, this game will probably only last you a couple weeks.

So far I think it's fun as hell. Especially if you can crank up the video quality. Sometimes I watch the cinematic camera and think it's sooo pretty that I forget to move my ships! Must own for hard core SW fans.
