Before this interview I was considering spending the extra money to get a 1080p DLP. Guess I will go cheaper.

1080 24FPS
If you can actually see the added benefit of 60FPS over 30FPS, watching a sports game in 720p & 1080i, then you have better eyes then I do..Technically, what Tyler said about the FPS, lines, are true, but in practice you don't notice it..I have a CRT (1080i) & LCD (720p) & I can't tell the difference when watching sports..Redskins Fan. Re: 1080pnot good for Gaming?
There is most likely going to be way too much slow down (in games) at 1080p on the PS3 hardware (for most games). That power can be used by Devs in other ways while running at a stunning 720p/1080i.
The number of games using 1080p effectively, will probably be counted on 1 hand during the duration of the PS3 life and probably be 1st party IMO.
the 1080P rhetoric was to one-up MS (720p) at E3 and was mostly aimed at movies on Blu-Ray while misleading gamers that it would be used extensively for games.
The PS3 is just not THAT much more powerful.Comment

Re: 1080pnot good for Gaming?
KBI, you are 100% correct when you mentioned Microsoft's Agenda for pushing 720p. That Agenda is the partnership they have with Samsung, which is the leader in DLP Technology, which runs 720p.. As for 1080p. It's all hype since there is NO-CONTENT out there right now that can produce a pure 1080p resolution. 1080p is even an approved resolution if you want to get technical. Is it the resolution of the future. More than likely, the question is when????Comment

Re: 1080pnot good for Gaming?
My TV can only do 1080i and I have noticed no slowdown. Has anyone who has played in both 180 and 720 really noticed a difference?
I really think the jury is out on 1080p since we have yet to see finalized content running on it. I do think that at a certain point the human eye is not going to pick up on huge differences anyway.DON'T PANICComment

Thereare panels that can produce a pure 1080p resolution..The Westy comes to mind.. & you are correct. 1080p isn't a standard HD resolution..Only 720p/1080i.. I doubt 1080p will be mainstream anytime soon. Maybe 10 yrs from now..Too much bandwidth comsuption..Comment

Re: 1080pnot good for Gaming?
After reading this thread it sounds like maybe two or three listened to the podcast.
All summed up the "HD expert" said that each HD standard isn't necessarily the best standard across the board for all applications. There was mentioned that 720p natively supports 60fps with 720 vertical lines versus 1080i's 540 vertical lines. And with that 720p @ 60fps is currently the best HD standard for video games and sports broadcasts because of the fast moving action.
Then there was talk about 1080p (which currently isn't a standard yet). He mentioned that 1080p currently is at 24fps which wouldn't look good for games and sports broadcasts but looks good for stills and film like Discovery Channel HD. 1080p @ 60 fps isn't here yet because production equipment hasn't caught up to the processing requirements and bandwidth required for 1080p @ 60fps. So, any 1080p gaming we will see will be upscaled by the console or TV.Comment
