Re: Flashback NES at GameSpot
Man that article brought back some memories. The more I think about it, the more I realize that the 1980's was our golden age for gaming. Everything was still original then, we hadn't gotten sidetracked by our love of graphics, gameplay was foremost, and by God the games were downright fun and many were hard as hell!
I feel bad for gamers now that never spent an entire Sat afternoon with their best friend playing Contra (and of course, using the cheat code). Or who have never wasted months of their childhood on The Legend of Zelda or Dragon Warrior, just to say that you beat the game. Or have never experienced that initial thrill of knocking down Mike Tyson, only to have him get back up and plow your *** into the canvas.
Good times and a fun read.Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!! -

Ah, memories. I remember all those games. Dragon Warrior was one of my absolute all-time faves....I remember becoming totally immersed in that game. For its time, it was incredibly deep. And I still remember standing in front of my TV while my dad took my picture to capture my high score in Life Force. Good times.
I echo what Hootiefish said about fun and gameplay being prized back in the day. Especially when it comes to sports games, I miss the simplicity of those days. Sure we all knew how to do the deke move in NHL 94, for instance, but that game was probably the most fun I'll ever have playing a sports game with friends.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

I was a Nintendo fanboi back in the day so I shall read this with great interest. I really miss the days when fun was prized over snazzy graphics and the push for realism set in.
This article should bring back a lot of nostalgia. I still remember playing pac-man with my sister and mother.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

That was a fun read. It's kind of crazy that that all took place 20 years ago. Remember the hyper surrounding Super Mario Bros. 3? I don't think any game has been hyped as much as that game was and then managed to excede expectations.Comment
