Help with best way to get PS2 roster files?!

I'm looking for the best way to be able to transfer roster files to my PS2. I am going to buy MLB The Show, (I haven't bought a PS2 game for about 3 years!) and definitely want the capability to either download or transfer roster files into my PS2. The cheapest way would seem to be buying a network adapter for 15 bucks, but then that would only enable me to download the "official" roster updates, correct?
Then I've been looking into the Action Replay (regular or EVO) and Gameshark kits, but am not sure which direction to go. If I understand these devices, they would allow me to tranfer roster files(both official and user-created) by burning them onto a CD, and then transferring them to a memory card inside the PS2, right? Would I need to buy any other cables/devices such as adapter, usb pen drive etc to make this happen? Or can I simply burn a CD of the roster file and transfer it to my memory card inside the PS2 without any other software? I really want to be able to use user-created rosters, since I know many of them may be superior to the offical ones. Hopefully this is the right forum for this thread. Thanks in advance for your help!
