    Oblivion Review 360 and PC

Xbox Mag gives it a 9.5

+ Pick any synonym for "Fun, "deep or huge"
+ Stunning Presentation with Luscious visuals and a memorable musical score
    - The envelope -pushing comes at a technical price. ( they talk about some frame rate drops in the review, but it does not sound like a game killer)

Doesnt the developer for this game have a history of frame rate hiccups? Maybe I am wrong but I think I have read many people say this program is notorious for having some frame rate issues.

However that is a pretty good score. I will definately have to get this game from GameFly to see what the fuss is all about.

Yeah frame drops were in Morrow and Oblivion apparantly slows down a bit when the screen gets crowded. Plus there is annoying screen tearing yet again in a 360 game, so the devs are struggling with the refresh rate in hi definition or something like that.

OXM is going crap again. You can't properly review this series weeks before the ship date.

This game may have pushed me to get a 360 at launch. I want to be assured the combat is on point and they didn't streamline it too much.

They actually mention in the review that they didn't even have the game. They reviewed it over a few days' play at Bethesda's offices. Think they logged something like 44 hours over a weekend. If you play it that much, you still know whether you like it or not. It's not like they got it and played it for 5 minutes and gave it a score.

I'm not sure how long you WOULD wait to "properly" review it anyway. Two weeks? Three? Then nobody would be interested. I can understand where they're coming from.

Yeah, OXM's reviews have been pretty fair and they have stated the conditions they have reviewed games early.

That just confirms my fears. They did the same thing with Halo 2 and the hyperbole filled slobber was unreadible.

Once you step foot in the developers office for an exclusive, there is a major conflict of interest. Even if it's innocent there's no way to maintain focus to evaluate the game as a whole. I know they want to get the word out, in that case they should send the code at least 3 weeks in advance for a game this massive.

44 hours? That very well could be under 50% of the game's content, and is an incomplete assesement.

But I bet 44 hours is probably more than 85% of the audience who buys it actually plays it.

It wasn't exactly filled with hyperbole, either. It was a pretty decent review. IGN's reviews frequently praise features that sound like nothing more than a press release. This review didn't strike me the same way, but to each his own. I'm certainly not going to defend them, but just making up your mind because they reviewed it early, and from Bethesda's location...well, that's up to you, I guess.

I don't think you need to play all 100ish hours to make a complete, informative review...it's not like the 50% they didn't play is an entirely new game completely different from the first 44 hours of Oblivion. If a reviewer doesn't have a complete opinion after 44 hours (because that's what reviews are, opinions) then I'd really start to wonder what the hell that reviewer is doing, personally.

You expect them to play throught the whole game then review it? Seems to me they did more than a lot of reviews. (Especially sports game reviews)
How many sports games have you've seen great reviews(especiall for the gameplay) only to pop the game in and withing 15 minutes a glaring issue pops up?
I personally think they did a good job.
