PS Biz Brief '06: No PS2 Price Drop Soon

March 14, 2006 - Continuing his brief intro during today's PlayStation 3 business briefing in Japan, Ken Kutaragi went on to quell rumors about a PS2 price drop as the company plans to continue selling it at its current price of $149 for some time.

Being that 32% of US homes have the system, as well as 41% in Japan and 33% in the UK, along with the ever-increasing sales of those staggering numbers, the company sees no reason to cut the price at this point. Kutaragi expects that the electronics giant will ship over 10 million PlayStation 2 systems in 2006.

Stay tuned as we'll continue to provide up to the minute updates from the conference.

Ok I'm no business expert but would'nt lowering the price add to there numbers, possibly increaseing there percentage gains through 2006? Strange but hey I can't say what sony is wrong because it's work this long.

The only reliable consoles are from Nintendo. MS's Thompson Drives were the same way.

If consumers are still buying them at a steady rate why lower the price and cut into your profits? Companies only lower prices when sales slow down.

Why lower them now? I was at a Best Buy and two different families bought a PS2 for their kids. If it is still selling than why lower it now?

The PS2 is still selling like hotcakes at $150, why lower the price. MS never even lowered the xbox price either.

I don't know how the sales were for the XBOX after the 360 but a lowered price to maybe $100 could've sold a lot more also. Anyone know how well the XBOX is still selling?
