Most people disavow all knowledge of the 3rd Godfather movie. Kind of like there were no Matrix movies made after the first one, and no Alien movies made after Aliens.

Though I agree with your statements, I do think Godfather III gets blasted way too much. I still don't think it is that bad. It just had so much to live up to.

There is no doubt that it holds up. It actually becomes better after you watch I and II consecutively. Diane Keaton gets annoying here and there, but that is my only complaint.
