Datel XChange 360 Official FAQ Thread

    Guys,

I thought I would create an official FAQ thread for those who have picked this device up.

Acid and I just did a little experimenting, and it appears we are able to exchange certain save files with the software Datel provides, and the process is MUCH easier than using the software from 360GameSaves.com. Here's how...

When you install the software that comes with the XChange 360, you'll notice that in your "My Documents" folder, you will have a new folder titled "X360 Memcard Images".

This is the folder that the software uses to save any memory card images you might copy over to your HD. This is also the folder you'll need to copy any memory card images you'd like to transfer to your XBox 360 hard drive.

When you copy an image from your memory card, you'll have two files associated with it. One file is a .txt file. The other is a .z36 file. You can transfer whatever files were on your memory card simply by exchanging these two files.

    The process goes like this...
    • I saved a roster file from College Hoops to my memory card
    • I copied the memory card to my PC using the Datel software
    • I sent Acid the .txt file and the .z36 file
    • Acid saved these files to his C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\X360 Memcard Images folder.
    • Acid started up his Datel software and copied that memory card image to his memory card.
    • Acid copied the contents of the memory card to his XBox 360 hard drive by using the dashboard. He went to the "System" blade, chose "Memory", chose "MU", then "Games", then "Unknown Profile", then "College Hoops 2K6". He then selected "Roster1", and chose to copy it to his hard drive.
    • Acid started up his College Hoops 2K6 game and loaded that roster file.

So folks, it looks like the Datel software is much more user friendly than we initially anticipated. I hope this helps everyone who plans on picking up the XChange 360.

Yeah, it's a much easier process.

You just need someone to send you the file (TJ and I exchanged it over AIM) or someone has to zip it up and post it here and then you just unzip it and put it into the X360 Memcard Images folder.

But, you have to transfer it from the dashboard, I initially tried going straight into the game and loading it from the memory card but it showed up as being blank.

I can't seem to get it to work. I saved the default roster from college hoops onto the memory card:

Opened up the Datel software and backed up the card where it creates a folder "X360 Memcard Images" in my documents. I then unzipped the zip file "roster" from lupacino but that wasn't a .z36 file it was a .ros file. I then put this into the "memcard images folder" and followed your instructions copied it to my harddrive and loaded it and nothing came up but the numbers for the players still? Please Help, I would love to get this working for tomorrow.

          thanks

It has to be a .z36 file, otherwise it won't work. The .ros file you had wasn't a memory card image, it was a single file that was on a memory card. In order for this to work, the person exporting the file has to use the Datel software also.

Then do we just put that file in the "memcard images" folder? Could one of you post your .z36 file?

It's actually two different files. One is a .z36 file. The other is a .txt file. I'll post it a little bit later tonight or tomorrow.

The installation for the Xplorer360 software is a bit of a bear. Once you get the image posted I'll see if you can copy over the image using Xplorer360 since it does have an option to open an image file. If using the Datel software is easier, I guess the best idea would be to format your card after each use and only have the one file on there that folks need for rosters, etc. I tried making a backup of the memory card using Xplorer360, but it was 62mb way to big to upload on the site to test. How large are the files for Datel's software?

I think it depends on how many files are on your memory card when you create the image file for it. With me, I only had the Roster File and a settings file from Fight Night that I was testing with, thus making the file rather small.

I'll go boot up the PC that I have that stuff saved on and see if I can give you a more concrete answer.

how in the HELL do you change your billing address on datel's website? I'm trying to order one of these and I can't get my billing address and shipping address different. Anybody have to do this?

                          Good post T.J.

So are you saying that you're combining the .z36 and .txt files of the same name, zipping both files together, and sending them out that way through the PC?

I initially set my billing address and shipping address to be different, but low and behold, they shipped it to my billing address yesterday, so I don't know what's going on there.

Yep, that's the way it looks like it's going to work. You'll just have to remember to UNZIP it before putting the files in that Memcard Images folder.

Yeah upload it please and let's see if it will work. I'd like to be able to open the image on Xplorer360 and then save the individual files. If it works, then when that other option comes out that was on lik-sang.com (the little USB adapter that you plug your memory card into that looks like a pen drive) then maybe it will work for that as well. It looks like we're gonna have three or four options for roster transfers before too long.

                              1. Datel Transfer Kit
                              2. Homemade USB Adapter
                              3. SATA connection that doesn't require you to open the 360 hard drive (I'm really curious about this one, because folks have had success transferring original XBOX files to the 360. This would be very handy once games like ESPN Football 2k5 as well as MVP05 and 06 become backwards compatible)
                              4. The other option on Lik-Sang mentioned above.

I like the Xplorer360 software, but I'm worried that's going to get into gray areas with later releases and Microsoft will do something about it. This could turn into the same thing AR dealt with when people put modded Halo saves on their hard drives (that's what got Datel in trouble to begin with) It's a sad fact as well, since for every 1000 people using the software for a legitimate purpose (rosters, season files, etc like those on OS) it only takes 1 person to mess it up for everyone by using modded files on XBOX live.
