Re: Xbox 360 Intercooler
I wouldn't keep my system in an inclosed area. I have mine sitting on top of my entertainment center. In the center, I just don't think the hear is escaping properly, but that's just my opinion.Originally posted by UNC_Pete -
Re: Xbox 360 Intercooler
The top of the system has air hooles also so that's why I think it's not a good idea to keep in the entertainment center. The air isn't flowing properly even though the front and back are open.Originally posted by DXZekeIt's worth trying out since it'll open the bottom up a bit more for more airflow.
It's worth a shot.
Just try and keep the sides of your system as open as they can be since that's where the air is getting mainly sucked in.Comment

Re: Xbox 360 Intercooler
Actually it's similar to my idea. I said before on this forum that I purchased a 6pack of Office Depot erasers. I placed one on each corner of the 360, right where the rubber feet are. (horizontal)Originally posted by UNC_PeteIts in my entertainment system that has both the back and front wide open in the space it is in. It's like 3 feet deep and 3 feet wide. I read some kid put 5 poker chips on each corner of his system and didn't freeze again lol but I don't think I should have to even think about going to that..
I took the last two erasers and placed them on each end of the Power Brick. If you do this you are raising the 360 for better airflow.
***Hint as to what could really be your problem***
This came from the Official Xbox Forum. Check the rear of the machine and MAKE SURE both fans are working at the rear of the unit. Note one fans pushes more air than the other, that's perfectly normal.
If only one fan is working the machine will surely OVERHEAT. If that's what you find call Microsoft and they'll replace your unit.Comment

Re: Xbox 360 Intercooler
It was carpet. I'm going to check my fan. Thanks. I have it up on 5 poker chips right now with a fan blowing on it. I'm going to check tonight and see if it overheats while playing fight night..Originally posted by MetropolisCarpet or flat surface?Comment

Re: Xbox 360 Intercooler
Bro, never ever place a system on carpet. That is why your system is messed up, the heat had no where to escape underneath so it was moving back in the box.Originally posted by UNC_PeteIt was carpet. Re: Xbox 360 Intercooler
It doesn't matter. I elevated it using poker chips out in the middle of the floor with a 12 inch fan blowing on it and it still freezes. I did find out however that one of the fans is not working in the back. That is why it is freezing. So, this forum did help solve my problem. The box should be here tomorrow to send it out.
The only time it was on the carpet was when it was vertical.Last edited by UNC_Pete; 04-10-2006, 10:52 PM.Comment

Even then, you are blocking the bottom of the console on the carpet if it's vertical.Originally posted by UNC_PeteIt doesn't matter. Re: Xbox 360 Intercooler
As long as the sent you a box man, just send it back to them. How long have you had the system for?Originally posted by UNC_PeteI only had it on the carpet one time. 90% of the time it has been in my entertainment center..It overheats no matter what I do since the one fan is out..Comment

It's loud, but you tune it out after awhile.Originally posted by A-DubThis might have already been answered and I'm sorry if it has, I just really don't wanna sift thru all these pages BUT...my 360 is REALLY loud, will this make it more quiet or does it have no effect on the noise?Comment
