Opinion on WE9 and MLB:the Show being a "system seller"

    fellas,
just wanted to get the opinion of some fellow osers'!
i am really on the fence whether it is really worth buying a slim ps2 for we9 and mlb:the show....
i got a 360, but unfortunately, i don't think that fifa 06 world cup or mlb 2k6 are going to be that great of games. graphically, they will be unreal, BUT gameplay wise, i think that mlb and we9 will be far superior...
i haven't really heard anything about we9 development for the xbox 360 north american release until probably in a year or so....and with world cup coming up, just gettin' me hyped for a soccer game...
i actually bought a slim ps2, but felt guilty about getting it, so luckily walmart took it back...but now i am rethinking it...
any opinions would be great...thanks fellas...hopefully get some good feedback and maybe guys on here actually bought the system again just for these two games and wanted to see if it was worth it....

I own both games and IMO neither is a system seller. Don't get me wrong they are both solid games but not worth plunking down $150 on a system. Because if the games don't hold your attention for X amount of time and you get tired of them will you keep your PS2?, probably not.

If you really want the games bad enough then I say go for it, although to me it doesn't make much sense seeing the PS3 is coming out later this year and you'll probably be gushing over the screenshots of MLB07 and WE11on the PS3.

    just my .02cents

      MLB is a good game.

I would call a system seller a game that is an absolute must-have game.

      It's not a system seller.

They as in Sony needs to fix some of the problems with the game first before I call it the "Best Ever". With that said MLB06 is a very good if not solid game, but best ever not yet sorry.

In a sense I bought a PS2 again for MLB 06, EA's MVP NCAA, WE: 9, and for EA Rugby 06.

I've since sold all the games except MLB 06 and MVP. The only reason I haven't sold MVP is becausei the eBayer that won the auction is negligent. MLB is the best baseball game I've played and I enjoy it immensely.

That being said, I don't play games much at all, but when I do, I will sit down with MLB and enjoy a few games.

Winning Eleven was very good, but there were small things that frustrated me and made it unenjoyable as a result. Impressive game, but I was surprised to find myself glad I sold it, and ridding myself of the frustration it brought me. It's a shame because it's a very well done game for the most part.

I wasn't able to get "into" Rugby and have no connection with the real game.

I didn't have a DVD player at the time of my PS2 purchase, so it was a very worthwhile deal for me. As for spending $200 for a PS2 and MLB.. I don't think any game is worth $200, but MLB does an excellent job of representing the game of baseball.

If you played past Winning Eleven's, you've likely played the newer one, for the most part. I actually found previous releases to be less frustrating, and more realistic, but the game has reached a point where I guess the developers can't do much more on the current gen systems.

O...K...So IYO what's the best game ever made, AND this so called game of yours doesn't have ANY problems right? lets here it...
I've been playin' baseball games every since you was in diapers bro, and this game excells above ALL the games I'VE played...and yes, they too had their problems.

Man, I agree. It's a really good game but I'm not even close to applying that "best ever" tag to it. On a per-generation level I would take any other these games over it: RBI Baseball, Baseball Stars, Baseball Simulator 1.000, World Series Baseball '95, All Star Baseball 1999-2001, World Series Baseball 2k3, and of course High Heat. I might say it just barely edges out MVP's 2005 offering this generation but I think I would rather call it a dead heat since MVP was just a more polished product in my eyes. Also, there's something about the way the gameplay feels that just irks me the wrong way and I would love to explain exactly what it is but I can't quite put my finger on it. So... I'm willing to guess this is an unpopular opinion around here...

I was kind of in your shoes....really wanted to play MLB 06 but all I had was a 360. I couldn't justify buying a PS2 when I already had a 360, but I still am playing MLB 06....on my new PSP. Have you thought of that? Having 2 home consoles made no sense for me, but I could justify getting a handheld. MLB on the PSP has been great so far.

Funny that you mention that... I did the same thing, except for getting WE for the PSP instead of the MLB game.

I think that would be a great idea if you have been thinking about getting a handheld. I was on the edge about getting a PSP for months (never owned a handheld before) and so far I've been very satisfied.
